Newb question about modding a skin.

Let me start by saying I’m a complete newb when comes to modding skins or anything inside RR. I run DFX4.0 because it looks cool in my car and it was easy for me to customize within the program it’s self. A HUGE thank you to whoever spent the time to make this so user friendly!

Anyways, I have a goal and was wondering if I could get pointed in the right direction. Im not sure how hard or extensive it will be, but I figured I would give it a shot.

Simply, I want to be able to click a button on the “home screen” of my DFX skin and have it open a program, very similarly to how it opens Iguideance in a new screen and sizes it correctly to fit, while still retaining the “Menu” button on the screen. The program I am interested in is created by Innovate Motorsports, and is called Logworks 3.0. Here’s a link: http://innovatemotorsports.com/suppo...orks3Setup.exe

I use this for monitoring my wideband 02 sensor and some thermocouples, and would really love to integrate it into my current skin, but don’t even know where to start. Is what I am asking difficult? Is there an example someone can show me that might help point me in the right direction? I don’t have a ton of programming experience, but I’m a quick learner! I’ve searched around a bit and really don’t see much on this, unless I am looking in the wrong places.

Anyways, any help or recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome, to the great hobby.

Simple description of DIY, would be to first copy a skin file that already has an embeded application area defined (DESTINATOR_7.skin) and rename to ie.Logworks.skin then use this code for a button:

Code:

"LOAD;logworks.skin;;<full path to prog exe>;<window name of running prog>"

Sample:

"LOAD;logworks.skin;;C:\Program Files\Logworks\Logworks.exe;The Logworks"

BTW, if you haven't already looked at the Skin Commands.txt located in the documents folder, I'd suggest glancing thru that as its the "skin manual" for RideRunner.

Thanks for the tip! That worked beautifully; opens the program from the button I want. Is there a way to make the actual window appear embedded without the frame? I used winspector but I’m afraid I might be doing this wrong. Here’s the code I’m using for the button in DFX4.0:

LOAD;LOGWORKS.SKIN;logworks;C:\Program Files\LogWorks3\LogWorks3.exe;!Button
