    RR's Audio Output Device

Is there anyway to change the audio output device of RR so it is not the same as the windows default sounds? I have searched and couldn't find anything

that is highly dependent on the player you're using... if you use winamp, you can simply open winamp outside RR and select the output plugin and configure what device it will use in its configuration.

    Thanks for the quick reply.

Sorry, I should have been more clear. I have winamp etc going through usb dac(not the default device) but the sounds say when clicking buttons in RR or using the internal player go through the on board sound card (default)

I need to change because I need all the sound from my PC to output through the USB DAC except the from Garmin Mobile PC, which doesn't let you pick the output

The PLAYSOUND command in RR and the built-in video player can only playback to the default audio card. While there's no workaround for PLAYSOUND it isn't really a "necessary" function, but rather a cosmetic thing. For the Video player, you could switch to MPC which should allow you to select the output device (There are similar alternatives as well). If you use FFDShow, then you may be able to keep using the built-in player and select the device for playback in the FFDShow Audio settings.

Rats, because everytime there is some sound from the default device it interrupts my alpine head unit (ment to be only the satnav directions)

So best fix would be to mute RR and use MPC for videos?
Whats the best way to permently mute RR in this situation?

RR doesn't generally make sounds other than with PLAYSOUND and with the built in video.

If you just setup RR to NOT use voice, and to USE MPC (Both in RRConfig), RR will never make sounds unless by request of a skin (only some do that) -- in which case you can normally prevent it by deleting/renaming the sound file that it uses to make the sound. That's all you should need to do to "mute" RR completely.

You can probably make an application to switch the default device so that RR and other applications will use the selected device for playback, but other than that you'd probably need some specific driver integration..

I haven't tried this myself but I found this program when someone was looking for something similar before.

It should allow you to create a link which will change the default audio device before starting RR and (hopefully) change it back. That way, RR will be connected to whatever sound-card you need and the rest of the system keeps using the default.
