Ok, so i finally got around to testing the directed hd tuner i have in my car that hasn't been working for a few days. Its a little tricky to get at because its behind my dash kit, but i managed to do some testing.

First, i left the radio in my car and took out mitch's cable and replaced it with the stock cable an lcd screen which comes with the unit. First try it worked perfect, so then i thought there might be a problem with mitch's cable.

I put mitch's cable back on and it didn't work, so time to test it out on another computer.

Brought it inside to another computer i have, hooked it up with the stock cable and lcd screen and works. So, then i tried mitchs cable and his hd radio pcr and it found it first try. So, looks like the unit and mitch's cable are working fine, i think its a com port conflict.

I still have so many com ports which windows still thinks are being used, my gps is probably stealing the comport or something. Does anyone know of a tool to clean up your com ports?

Its so weird though, one day its working fine, the next its not. i didn't even change any settings..

THanks for the help guys, hopefully i can get this thing working..

    You can use portmon:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/s.../bb896644.aspx

To see if anything else has control of the com port.

Ok, i did some more testing today and as it turns out the hd tuner does work.

First i tried it in my house on my win xp pro virtual machine, worked everytime, with mitch's cable. I then brought my carputer inside to test and couldn't get the radio tuner connected for the life of me. Just wouldn't work.

So, i did a complete format of that windows partition. What a pain in the a**. There is so much to install to get it to where it was.

After i installed the essentils to test the radio on my new partitioned drive, mitch's hd radio pcr wouldn't detect the com port for the radio. Bare in mind, this is a fresh install. So, i played around with it for a little bit. I was originally connecting mitches cable with a serial to usb adapter i'v been using ever since i installed the first tuner a little over 1 year ago.

So, after it wasn't working i took off the adapter and connected directly to the serial port, still didn't work..

Opened up the cable i bought from mitch to make sure nothing is loose. It looked fine. Put the cable back together and put the serial to usb adapter back on and tried it again and mitchs pcr program detected it and so did rr. Very Weird.

So, i brought everything back into the car tried it and it didn't get detected in the car. I have mitch's cable and my serial to usb adapter taped up, so i untapped it so the wire would be more straight and it works, kinda works on and off. If it doesn't work, jsut play around with the cable and it starts to work.

So, to conclude this story, the tuner is ok, the problem either lies with mitch's cable or my serial to usb adapter which i bought from the mp3car store.

I drove around for an hour and everything worked, but there were a few times where i would be stopped and the radio would just stop to work. One of the two wires seems flimsy. I will have to keep my eye on it..

When I had this same problem, it was caused by a loose wire. Although mine was caused by broken wires inside that fuse box (yellow and black wires). Even though you've narrowed it down to the adapter or mitch's cable, you may want to just check those wires to make no other wires are broken...just in case.

Good point. Its been working fine the last 2 days, but if it starts to act up again i will definitely look at that.
