July update & Winamp buzz or clipping

I have my computer out of my car to fix a hard drive problem. I thought it would be a great time to update RR. Now when I play anything I get this buzz-clipping of audio. It is random, happens bad when running RR. It will also happen when running Winamp on its own but about only 10% of what I am getting in RR. I have tried alot of fixes from the Winamp site, this has helped some. I find it wierd that this problem started after the update for July. Anyone else having this problem?

sounds like a hardware issue... power supply interference, etc.. I've also seen cases where just switching the CPU stopped the interference (while keeping the same exact hardware: MB, Power supply,memory - everything). I have also found that if the Intel SpeedStep feature can cause interference on some on-board sound cards -- you can try disabling that feature if available. Still, most likely a hardware issue that probably gets worse when you use more of the CPU (i.e. inside RR). You can download/install another player (i.e. Foobar2000) or an old version of RR (and/or other frontend) and verify that the problem will persist -- which will rule out a software issue.

Guino, I am running a MSI M.B. and a 2800 AMD processor, 1.5 Gig ram, Creative PCI X-FI Extreme sound card. If I also get the buzz when running Winamp alone, how will running a old version of RR or another skin help? The only hardware change I made was changing out an IDE hard drive for a larger sata drive. Could this cause a problem? I did download Foobar2000, but when I change the setting to use it in the config, I don't get any sound output. What else to I have to change in the config setup for Foobar2000 to work?

Didn't say it would help, just said it would prove it to be a hardware issue.

You need to set the path for foobar in rr.ini MANUALLY for now. But you can test it alone first.

In any case, you said you have your carpc OUT OF THE CAR for fixing.. I'm assuming that you have done SOMETHING to power your carpc OUTSIDE YOUR CAR so that you can fix/test it -- whatever you did could be causing the issue, and it may very well be that if you put it BACK IN THE CAR, your old setup does not cause this interference problem. Even if you didn't change anything at all (cables etc), just the fact of plugging your carpc to a different/new power supply could be causing the noise (depending of course of the quality/type of the power supply).

O.K. I might have found my problem, I just don't know how to fix it! I noticed last night when I go into volume control I get an error message that say something like "no avalible mixer installed" (sorry at work, not the exact message). Then the sounds and audio devices properties box pops up, and all the sliders and radio buttons are greyed out. If I click on the audio tab all the default devices show my Creative X-Fi extreme card, but they are all grayed out and unselectable. I removed my card, rebooted and uninstalled all the creative software. Rebooted let windows run normally, and shut down. Then reinstalled the card, booted and loaded all software. But the problem remains. I guess tonight I will try and find the sound drivers for the on board sound for my MB, to see if this helps.
