auto skin and auto gamma feature idea

i'm not sure how many people use the day/night skin and/or the day/night gamma features of rr but i for one do and find it very useful. i had a thought for a possible improvement on this feature.

right now we can choose to have rr change to day or night mode depending on a specified time of day or we can base it on gps. using the gps based mode change seems preferable so that you don't have to manually change the times in rrconfig every couple of weeks. the only problem i have with this is that first thing in the morning on my drive to work, i usually don't have a gps lock for the first minute or two and in this case rr defaults to night mode making it difficult to see the screen.

my idea is this. what if the gps based mode change was a hybrid of the gps and time based mode change. rr would check and see if there is a gps lock and if there is then write the day and night start time to rr.ini. This way when there is no gps lock, rr will still change modes correctly based on the time of day.

Of course i really have no idea how the code works and don't have the skills to implement it but the concept seems like it should work. what do you guys think?

Although late... that thinking & solution to that issue deserves a Gold for the day....

Ie..when RR finally gets the gps loc, update those settings then update them at some set interval, like once a day....would be more than sufficient..

And make this the new default GPS Mode.

Yea G, if you didn't start looking into this, I will take a stab at it.

side note:
I already fixed the gps based gamma to take consideration of whether we are in either the standard or daylight saving mode. Originally was HC'd to std time, so summer times were always an hour off for those of us in a daylight savings time zone. I have wanted this fixed for sooooooo long, been using it in car for a while now and comparing it to GPS SW times and has been spot on.
