    Question Music Player Setup Question

What exactly does the "Player App:" selection menu do in the music player setup options? Does it mean RR uses WMP to play music instead of Winamp? The only reason I care is because I rate my music and I keep it on a portable HDD that I transfer between my car and home PC. WMP stores the song rating in the ID3 tag where as Winamp stores it in a database file. With a globally stored rating system I can copy music to wherever and not have to worry about re-rating it. It also sucks to have one file get corrupted and lose all you song ratings (the reason I stopped using Winamp).

So, is it possible to make a skin or plugin to use WMP ratings? I tried rating songs with the DFX and LSX Void skins with WMP as the player app, but it didn't modify the music file so I assume those skins are written to only use the Winamp method. I use Streetdeck right now only because it uses WMP as its media player. I find RR to be a much more flexible FE with way more features than SD (not to mention it's free! ), BUT the fact it exclusively used Winamp (until recently) was a deal breaker for me. After seeing the option to use WMP, I might switch to RR if I can find/make a skin to rate songs through WMP. Thanks.

RR can use Winamp, WMP, FMOD, iTunes and Foobar2000 for music (based on that config setting). I don't believe there's a WMP rating plugin made yet, but it can be created via plugin.

That's great news! Now I just need to figure out how to write a plugin, lol. If anyone manages to create one, I'm willing to make a donation.

I can probably make RR read the rating directly, but I'm against writing the tags directly... is there a specific version of WMP required to do the ratings or is it a plugin ? Also, this is for MP3 or WMA ? Let me know so I can set it up and try it sometime.

I use WMP11, which is the latest version. I've never installed a plugin, so I don't think it needs one. If you could quickly throw something together that would read the file ratings that would be great! Ultimately, I would like to be able to rate songs through RR, but having the ability to load a 5 or 4 star playlist is HUGE! I use WMAs, but it should work with MP3s too. From what I understand, WMP reads and writes rating info in the ID3 tag. But I'm not a programmer so it could me more involved than that. I'll search around for some info and try to rate some MP3s to see if it will save the rating. It will have to wait until Tuesday though cause I'm out of town right now. Thanks!
