    RideRunner, Windows Media Player, and Visualizations

    OK, before I get flamed I've searched the forum for two days now and have not been able to find any answers that have resolved my question/problem. Also, I haven't been able to find any manual, the forum being the closest thing. So here goes...

    I downloaded the latest version of RideRunner (very nice product by the way) and Windows Media Player (version 11) and using the default carwings skin I can't for the life of me figure out how to get the visualizations to work. Here's setup portion from the rr.ini:

    [Audio Player Setup]
    player=WMPRR
    playerpath=
    hideplayer=false
    exitmute=false

    In RR Config I have Windows Media Player selected as the Player App in Music\Player Setup
    I also have the "Other" visualization plugin selected with the window title set to WMPVis

    I ran WMP by itself and tried a couple different visualizations, "Album Art", "Alchemy", etc and they work fine

    When a song is playing and I click the VIS button nothing seems to happen until I minimize RR then I can see a small rectangle that says WMPVis, it appears to be a window title bar.

    I suppose it's possible I'm not looking in the right place is RR so here are a couple of pics of where I'm looking (areas outlined in red)

    I also tried using WinAmp 2.95 and had the same problem except the visualization would actually show up in a separate windows behind RR.

    So what am I doing wrong?

    Flame suit on...let me have it!

    Your settings seem fine, but (at least as far as I've tried) the Carwings skin doesn't "embed" the visualization in RR... this could be added, but I'd advise you try a different skin first (i.e. BMV2).

    I'll try that, thanks for the reply. By the way is there a manual for RR? The more I click around the more options I stumble upon.

    That's a tough subject to get into.. RR may look entirely different from a skin to another, which makes it difficult to make some sort of standard functions. Some screens do have a help button which shows info about functions in the skin, but this didn't seem to get very popular (specially since clicking around seems to be the fastest way to learn).

    Guino I'm having an issue with my visualizations but I'm using Winamp. When I start RR, Winamp opens, and shows up in front of RR (even though I've set it to hide) and the visualizations window shows as well. I minimize it and go to music in RR and play, and then the visualizer shows and I see all the fancy designs. But it flickers and disappears behind RR and then comes back and disappears again, etc. So I press FX (on my spider skin) to hide the visualizer and it hides fine. What could be the prob?

    Also, when I double click the visualizer, it goes into fullscreen mode which is good, but the playlist in RR flickers through the visualizer. Never used to happen until I installed the latest version of RR. Any ideas? I'm using the Milkdrop visualizer.

    In my config in RR, I've selected Milkdrop as the visualizer.

    You can prevent winamp from showing up by setting hideplayer=true in RR.INI (or by option in the config).

    SOME (not all) video card+CPU combination are not fast enough to prevent the directX flicker from the playlist and visualization drawing on top of each other. Disabling iLists or minimizing RR should fix it -- other visualizations may work better also.
