audio on boot and resume

on both clean boot and resume from hibernate, the volume will be way loud even though the slider in RR is set low. As soon as I touch the volume up or down button the volume will change to the level set by the slider. It's a cheap sound card, Diamond 7.1 DLL. Thinking about upgrading.

sounds like a driver issue... I'd look for a newer driver. You can also try putting the "SETVOL" command in the startup of RR to re-set it to a low level every time it starts, but chances are it won't execute until some of the music resumed is already played. Another "solution" would be to get a freeware tool on the internet to launch before RR during boot just to set the volume level. A new driver is probably the best fix (if it works) -- or you may want to look if you don't have any other application setting/messing with the volume.

Guino is there a way we can have rr execute the commands to setvol before it starts winamp, as finding a utility is even more difficult in vista and win7

The thing is that the "correct" behavior is for the sound to stay at the last volume it was before reset/shutdown/standby/resume/etc. If this doesn't happen, than SOMETHING (hardware/software/driver) is changing the volume -- RR won't change volume of anything unless you use one of the mixer commands/sliders (i.e. setvol), so if you suspect of RR, you can look at the debug log to see if the skin maybe sending something. Otherwise, it's a matter of finding what's wrong with the hardware/driver and/or other software -- making something to set a volume before RR executes is a jerry-rig that should be avoided. Having said that, the only thing WE can add to RR is a "startup" volume setting that would tell RR to set the volume to a certain level before playing anything.

I just posted this same type of issue in the SB X-fi 5.1 review earlier today, my volume would increase to 100% no matter what volume settings were prior.4 days of troubleshooting this.. I uninstalled RR and DFX and it seems to be working now. I had to set a delay of 10 sec and connot tamper with the EQ settings within any skin otherwise winamp will default the the wave out to the soundmapper rather then SB5.1 and this creates all kinds of issues with RR (freeze/errors upon resume all breeds of tricky issues. Im keeping my eye on the post..lol just incase it acts up again and blow my eardrums..@ least I'll have my vision to see the solution here though..

I'm considering giving win 7 a shot. I don't know what else to do. I spend so much time loading drivers, software and f-ing with files. I'm glad you posted I almost went out and bought an xfi as I didn't have these problems with my last setup which had an xfi. One little thing can throw the whole mess out of whack. I'm seriously thinking about buying a setup from guino/nisuautomotive just to cut down on the aggravation.

Just remember, we do this because we're not one of these losers that will give up and buy a nice safe and secure but limited appliance called Mackintosh. We want it all and on our terms and that's worth fighting for

this seems like a hardware issue, i had the same issue with win7 on my old setup.
It worked fine with winXP and when i installed win7 i had the same problem, only with resume though. Never figured out why, because i bought a new system.
