Well I've already written a little code that saves a song to a txt and displays it in a custom list. It was origionally used for if I was listening to Sirius I could hit a button and it would save the artist and track and I could download it later. I was working on using limewire to automatically download since it's open source and I almost got it, but not quite. It got too complicated for my n00b programing brain so I aborted it. (If anyone can jump in on that, it would be much appreciated.)

I thought I could use that as my memo, then make a second txt with all the station artist/titles that refreshes every 30s to 1m depending on how much processing power it takes and compare the two txt files. If it finds a match, it pops up telling me that my saved song is on, and which channel.

If there's an easier way to do this, please let me know. I've never made a plugin before and all my programming abilities consist of guesses, assumptions, trial and error.

    Guino,
Did you have any ideas on this one?

I thought about that in the past.. the problem is that (unless you're tuned to the station) it takes some time to get updated channel information, and by the time this info comes in, the song has started for who knows how long -- then you'd hardly ever get the song right from the beginning.

Ya I guess you're right. I put my antenna in the window sill (not the best location, but not bad) and put SRINFO for every channel into a test skin and it took 2:21 (I'm sure that varies, I only tested once) from the moment RR was completely open to the home skin to the point where I have every station listed. What's an average song length? 2:30 - 3:00?

Will it take less time to refresh the stations once they're already loaded? It's hard to test since changing to that station will update it automatically.

    EDIT:
I just tested it out by watching one of the channels I wasn't listening to on my SRINFO page and as soon as it changed I went into my Sirius skin and it had just changed also so I think this could work once everything is loaded. You may miss one of your saved songs if it's within the first 2-3 minutes of starting RR but once everything is loaded it seems to be able to keep up quite nicely, even if you're not tuned to that station.

Yeah, I think SIRIUS does a better job at updating the stations than XM -- on XM you have to query the info, while on SIRIUS I think you have to wait for the info to come in (which I think is when anything changes for the channel), so for SIRIUS this should be viable. I think it should be simple to make a ONSRUPDATE event or something of that sort.

Not going to lie to you Guino, I don't have a clue how to do something like that and there aren't any real threads about making plugins. I did see there are some plugin examples bundled with RR though. I'll eventually take a gander through those and see what I can come up with.

Good news is I looked through the VB6 example (the only language I remotely know, out of the 3 examples) and it looks pretty straight forward.

Bad news is I can't find a copy of VB6 to work on my Windows 7 computer, although it's supposed to, so I have to do it while I'm at work which means not getting much accomplished.

We've been debating on how to implement this.. but haven't got very far yet.
