Support for DABBY? (DVB-T & DAB+ USB device)

Hi,

I'd like to request support for the following product:

Its a USB tuner for DVB-T & DAB+ (DAB+ is used in Australia).

Its the only DAB+ device that I've seen, and it actually works

I'm happy to assist in the development/being the guinea pig, as I have already bought one for my home PC.

it prob has no public programming interface...
though could be a standard windows tuner BDA type
yep.. its that
way over my head

maybe your best bet it to embed the app it comes with it...
if possible
DAB+ radio application

Thanks for the quick reply Mitch.

Thankfully there is a small app that comes with it, though its not very nice looking. Also, might not integrate well into CarPC use.
I might have a word to the guys who developed the device and see if they are open to suggestions.
Is there anything that I should be asking them specifically?
What would be the best 'thing' to get from them in order to allow integration of this into RR? a 'public programming interface'? Does that mean an SDK of sorts?

(Update: it does DVB-T, DAB+ & FM)

yes.. sdk, in most cases its not public, nor will it be when you ask
source code to the small app

can one download the small app?

prob wont start without the device...

im sure the device is composite usb device... if the dab+ / FM can be done outside BDA
mabye...

Seems the app will only start after it verifies the Dabby device is plugged in. Regardless, I don't believe this APP is what we would like to build on. It seems very beta, and crashes quite often. I've emailed the developers to discuss potential support.

In terms of control/management, I believe we are after the following:

Commands:
Open/Close Tuner (edit: added)
Tune to x.y Mhz (FM/DAB)
Tune to preset # (FM/DAB)
Scan Up/Down (FM/DAB)
Channel Up/Down (FM/DAB)
Record - Start/Stop (FM/DAB)
Set Volume (0-100%) (FM/DAB)
Inc/Dec Volume by x% (FM/DAB)
Mute - On/Off (FM/DAB)

Indicators:
Volume %
Mute State
Current Channel Freq
current Channel number
Current Channel's Preset Number (ifexist)
Current Station Name/Text/RDS/Stream Data
Dabby status - Connected/Not-connected

When I get in touch with the Devs I'll ask them if we can have access to the above, or an app/that allows us to drive/receive that info. Pls amend the list as necessary.

My limited experience with the 3 DVB-T tuners I've tested in the past, is that they are all very "touchy" -- if you do anything slightly out of what you're supposed to do the application crashes and/or the whole computer freezes up. I'm even starting to thing it is not a software issue.

Not sure if you already have but you could try to contact Renura @ Digital now on this page. He is has been very active at developing his product in the past with DTV in particular, and generally knows his product inside out.

I have been discussing this with Renura, but at this stage we have stalled a little. There is limited demand (mainly I'm the only person interested in this) at this stage, so...

If anyone else is interested in this little project please make a post in this thread. I'll show Renura how many people are interested in this capability.
