Profile Mode:
What is it, or where are my files....
come with me over the next few posts, together we'll learn about it.
RR for quite some time, prob more than a year, has a built in file manager. This file manager
keeps track of where internal files should be on ones PC. File examples: rr.ini, resume.ini, skins, plugins, and many temp files
all thoes pestky .ini files....
in PROFILE MODE, they are all located in
My Documents\Ride Runner
here is an example: (windows 7)
As you can see files are now organized
lets look at specific folders:
Backgrounds:
This is where all those wonderful backgrounds go, when stored here all skins can use them
thanks to DFX5 i now how alot :)
Cache:
This is where RR will store its temporary files. Examples: tagcache.ini, xmcache.ini, rrpl.m3u8, resume.ini...
Config:
This is where RR will store/access its configuration files. Examples: rr.ini, KeyTBL.ini, xmfavs.ini, ExecTBL.ini (global)...
Launch:
MixerPresets:
Plugins:
This is NOT where you put plugins, they still go in the correct places, ie global; C:\Program Files\RideRunner\Plugins\...
this folder is what the plugin should be using to store its localized data.
I'll say this now, NO USER DATA should ever be stored in the Program Files Path. One this is a UAC violation, and two
just a pain to keep user specific data away from programs... dont want to get into a debate on this, its always been a rule by Microsoft
just not really inforced. Typically we dont run into problems, becuase we tend to have single users on car pcs. But windows OS was written
to have many users on one pc, and have complete isolation of data.
Skins:
yep this is where the skins go...

Ok, i know its a plugin, but its so special, aka wonderful, it got its own data directory.
Next I will post a TOOL that will switch you to profile mode, it basically will copy files from RR's folder into
a new tree like above.
RR Legacy to Profile mover
This program copies the data found in the RR root, it has been tested quite a bit
but it may miss something, and you might have to manually handle it
since the skin moves, you might have to double check skin settings in rr.ini
for a long time, there is no real need for a full path to a skin ie
[Skins]
skinpath=Carwings_Dynamic_Lite
nightskin=Carwings_Dynamic_Lite
work perfectly fine, RR's File manager will use the defualt locations of the skin folder
a full path will work too... but when moving from legacy to profile... just double check it
the tool will attempt to fix it on its own...
the tool may even need more tweaking
but i think i got it right
when complete a log will be created, detailed to what happend
and if we need to work though any issues, im sure ill want to see it

well i have been useing this script since mitch made it up some time back when i 1st started testing for mitch , it works great , moves all files from a standard rr install into this profile mode, granted you will still need to edit a few settings after useing this script , but thats not a big deal atall
same here, using profile mode since mitch told me about it.

I have just tried to run this on a clean XP Pro SP3 install with the latest RideRunner installed and it just gives a ' . . . . has encountered a problem and needs to close' error.
I am logged in as a Domain Admin which is also a member of Local Admins so it can't be a rights issue.
I have tried it both inside and outside of the RideRunner folder
looking into what would be sent to MS I see a system.missingmethodexception
since ur using XP,
do you have .net 2.0(minium) framework?
I installed the latest RR (01/11/10) and selected the venice 5 Radio module which asked for .NET 2.0 to be installed, it linked to the download when it recognised that it wasn't installed and then installed.
So my guess is yes.
