Just an FYI...Application data should be in APPDATA not My Documents....thats also a violation of Microsoft's best practices guidelines. If you follow it, you should probably follow the whole thing![]()

you know, that would be for NON USER EDITABLE DATA, but we who use RR sometimes like to EDIT our skins with a text editor, and also edit the configs
so you are wrong, putting them in a that directory would only cause confusion to a group of users that for years freely edit thier own files without finding them in "hidden" folders
and please mind your own, stay out of Riderunner forums, no one here needs your 2 cents, go back to OM, you are a wonderfull programmer, but you dont see ANY of the RR team in your forums making backhanded comments. you are quick to look for something to post negiative here
oh btw, where is visuals studio 2008/2010 store its data? you program c# excellent, i cant find it, and i want to back up the data so i can reinstall on another computer

Not trying to confuse them, I want to know the answer.
Also although I hate it when justchat keeps butting in, I think he has a point here.
You can't have it both ways, if you are going profile mode you should do it properly.
Plugins should not have user editable files (AKA ini's) they should be configurable in the plugin, which is what I am trying to add to all of mine, or from a separate config program.
And really, if someone is savvy enough to try and configure by editing files then they are savvy enough to turn off hidden files so the can find appdata.![]()
I am doing it properly, why do you believe him before me?
i didnt want to SPLIT up the data, i want the USER settings to be Backup-able in one simple backup...
-Thanks

The clue is the words Application Data
It does exactly what it says on the tin.
Mitch, trust me, I hate it when me and Justchat1 agree on something. ANd I hate it when he treads on other FE's toes, but in this case I have to look at the names of the folders in question. And also by looking at these folders and seeing what is already in them.
I can understand why you want to stick the data where you do, but that is really for user created documents, like word, excel, notepad files and the such like, not files tahst applications create or use.
We did have this converstation ages ago when you first started talking about profile mode and I disagreed with you then. Not just because of what JC is saying now.
fine, you can dissagree, but i didnt want it HARD for anyone to LOOK/EDIT/BACKUP ANY of their existing RR files, the current set of users are not used to that...
the rule is, IF you want the USER to edit or view the APPLICATIONS USER DATA put them in CDSL_PERSONAL
and since I DO, thats where it goes...
install VisualStudio 2010, where is MICROSOFT putting all the settings and code by default? yea you GUESSED RIGHT, CDSL_PERSONAL, ie my documents
now why would they do that, ive NEVER edited the .xml settings files...
but i can... not to mention, i got 1 root folder to back up
now there is 1 place to backup, and you have all the USER data intact
