May be a VNC program ?
So I finally got a Android phone a few months ago (Samsung Captivate) and was thinking it would be cool to control RR from my phone.
Would it be possible to create a Android app and control RR via WiFi or something like that?
Then passengers could also control the CarPC and pass it around. Like controlling playlist and movies and stuff.
Any thoughts ideas?
I know there is voice control but never had it working and get feedback. (Guess I need a better Mic too)

Yeah, I would think there is a VNC app for Android.. then all you need is to set it up and you should see whatever is in the carpc screen on your phone and control it like a portable touch screen.

I use Gmote. I posted a video of it here somewhere.

Thanks for the input I don't know why i didn't think of VNC, should of been obvious. Now I am just trying to get a AP in my car. I had a dwlink 900ap i had been saving but didn't know it doesn't have a web interface and i don't have the usb drivers. Too bad cause its nice and small. So now I am going to use a linksys. Other option is dlink ap i have that doesn't do dhcp but have the carpc doing dhcp.
Thanks again.

Turns out I had VNC already in my car and its works well. I tossed in the Linksys AP connected to my inverter for now.
The refresh is a little slow on the screen though. Tired both IPhone and a android phone.

Also have a droid and use VNC...another option is eventghost. I use it for my remote wonder RF remote, it also accepts network commands (as well as a bunch of other stuff). App in the market for eventghost on droid, or build a web gui for eventghost--haven't tried that.

+1 on EventGhost. VNC is fine but with small phone screens IMO it's better to remote control than to show the entire screen.
I'm not using it in the car but might very well in the near future, right now just use it on my HTPC's. EG for Android can send network messages, and you can create your own skin/buttons to match your desired functionality. On the computer, with EG you receive from the Android a network message and have it mapped to a macro, just like a remote control would. So not only can you control RR, you could also create buttons to have Windows force restart RR, reboot, open external programs, etc. Once you get the hang of it you realize just how powerful EG is.

You mentioned both music and video, for the music side, there are a few nice apps, one called RemoteX that can control Winamp, iTunes, VLC, Windows Media Center and a couple others. There is almost zero lag and it gives nice large buttons, and can view the playlist on the phone as well.
Just do a Google search, as there are a few different apps, all with different features.
