USB 8 relay board from Sigma-shop (Does it works with RR?)

I just purchased Centrafuse (Actually, I'm still waiting on the license after 4 days now) but I've sent them the money via Paypal direct cause their checkout didn't work on the website. They said it worked on their end, so I guess the 4 computers I tried it on all had the same problem.
One of the main thing that got me to CF was the option to have a USB 8 relay board that can be controlled via plug-ins. I guess the board comes with a software and someone just made some nicer looking interface to work with it.
Well.... that pluggin is about the only thing that works stable on this system, and after seeing eLite II which is in the making, I'm totally blown away by the quality and features.

So again my question is, has anyone ever did some sort of pluggin for the usb relay board?

Also, is RR really hard to get going, I'm just worried for that since with CF, I've seen a ton of blue screens, non-working devices or devices interfering with each other (2 music track playing at the same time) and stuff.... Technically I don't even own the license yet (even if I paid for it) but I'm already regretting the purchase...

one warning on the sigma-shop board, it may not follow usb suspend rules, thier 1 relay board did not, and left itself on, when in suspend...
which is a NO NO, and could result in a dead battery...

as for plugin, i doubt it, its only 3 bytes it needs to turn a realy on or off... a plugin would be very easy, specailly in .net!
or you could code a command line program... and just call it directly from RR

    run;relayctl.exe|1 1

    that means relay #1 on

    run;relayctl.exe|1 0

    that means realy #1 off

OR, you could (shameless plug) buy a MJS Gadgets USB-IO-1, its 4 relays, but there is a plugin for RR (and CF too)

    Thanks for the reply Mitch.
Actually, I own the sirius control box, the 4 to 1 Line in box and the USB to serial cable from you LOL (PS: do you have a link to download exe drivers for those as I don't have a CD-ROM in my carPC, so I always have to make a ISO for them on my home PC :-P)

The board not following suspend rule is something I'm not sure of. Does it means the USB stays on even when the PC hibernate? Cause the +12V going to each relay N and to the main board are all coming from a constant +12V and that constant wire is controlled by a relay triggered by ACC. Meaning if the car ignition is off, the relay is off and no power goes to the board. ironically though, I notice after installing the board that my PC doesn't start from hibernate in the morning after leaving it overnight. This kind of indicate that it's possible that something is drawing my power below 11V which turns off my PC from the M3-ATX. (This is just speculation since I have not tested the V reading off the battery yet.)

Mitch, although I've already spent enough money on that sigma-shop board along with a really really really nice box for it, I'd be willing to dish it for something that is more reliable (If there is really something wrong with the relay board from sigma. I don't really know how to test it). Do you have a screenshot or link to the pluggin for RR or CF?
I'm seriously considering switching to RR, especially after seeing the eLite II demo :-0

It is VERY easy to skin this, and make it look however you want it to.

Here is a screen capture of it in the DFX skin. I am not done with the screen, and was for testing only.

I actually have no clue how to even come close to understanding how to make a plug-ins. I was looking for something similar to this pic:

WIth RR, you design the screen they way you want to look, in your favorite pain program like Photoshop or Gimp. Load that image into the skin editor, and you can then add buttons, labels, indicators where ever you want them, anywhere on the screen.

This is a quick and dirty demo skin somewhat copying the one you posted in CF.

This is a working skin. I have a couple LED's hooked to relay #1. When I click the first button in the skin, the LED's turn on, click again, they go off.

Also, in this skin, all of the labels / fonts are in the skin file, and not in the image. You can load the skin into the RR Skin editor to change the labels, or even do it in notepad

Damn! Yeah that's really sick!! This one is perfect! So when I install a skin (For example, eLite) I would need to modify your relay plugin to work with that skin, or does it just adds in there?

Speaking of relay board, after not even a few days or using it, I think I fried it last night. Learn the hard way that you can't connect the +12V going to the board while the usb is plugged in with the PC on. (I just hope it didn't damage my mobo). Now when I plug the relay board usb, all the 3 lights (yellow, red, green) stays solid and the computer won't discover the new usb. Couldn't see any sign of anything burned or broken, so I don't even know what broke on it. It just won't show up as one of the COM in the hardware manager. Guess I'll have to buy another one :-( ...Should have been some sort of warning for that since normally for car stuff, plugging the 12V in doesn't hurt the component.

hehe, well I paid for CF already so sucks to be me lol. But I'm planning to take the computer out of the car to do a fresh install (It's behaving all weird)... I might take RR a look & shot. Although I'm definitely looking into the Elite II skin.

Mitch, I have a question for you. Well, first of all, so I sent an email to sigma-shop, asking them what happen that my board stopped working lol and I asked them about the usb suspend rule issue. I have not heard back from them after a few days.... hmmm lol. One thing I'm very consern though is immediately after I've removed the relay board, now the computer wakes up from hibernation in the morning. Previously when I would start the car in the morning, the computer would do a full start up, indicating that the PSU shut down during the night. Only thing I can think of is the PSU would detect a low voltage and shuts down for safety. I never tested this but the signs seems pretty obvious. Anyways, this big red flag leaves me to ask you, is it possible to have 2 of your relay box working in the same program? In other word, I need at least 6 relay for now, maybe more in the future. your relay box only have 4. So, is it possible to have 1 plugin open, with 8 relay but like, one row of 4 would be for relay box / usb1 and the bottom 4 row would be for relay box / usb2 ?

PS: Although I've been seeing good help with CF forum, I feel RR forum is much more active...
