I just did the switch from CF3.6 to RR. I did a lot of research and couldn't find much tutorial for a basic basic settings. Some of those I found dates generally from 2005-2008. I assume RR config probably changed quite a bit from then?...
To give you guys a little background on the config I have, here's my list of parts & software:
- The latest RR that came out this month (Aug 2011) and the Elite 1.6 skin
- Sapphire M350 motherboard, AMD 1.6 with 4Gb ram running on Win 7 32bit with a 128gb SSD (C: ) and 1Tb HDD (D: )
- 9 inch touch screen
- Iguidance 2011 with the Bu353 I think it's called, the little round GPS receiver sold here on mp3car
- 1 x UAS audio selector from MJS
- 2 x I/O relay board (8 channel total) from MJS
- 1 x SC-C1 Sirius radio device from MJS
- 1 x Serial to USB cable from MJS connected to a Directed HD radio device
All my videos and music is stored on my D drive. the rest runs on C drive.
I'm looking for a basic tutorial on what to setup to get the basic going. Basically how to setup the config program so that I can get these few basic stuff up and running which are as follow:
- Music stored on my HDD
- Sirius Radio
- Movies & Videos
- I/O relays
For now I just need the basic, like for example, for music, do this, click that, find this folder type of deal. Then I'll play with the more advance visual stuff that RR seems to offer.
Also I should add, I'm definitely not a C++ guy or a computer tech, just an average guy so it's best not too use too many acronyms or tech language and just explain it exactly like how it looks infront of you hehehe.
Hopefully this post will work and hope the forum is nice here hehe.

Alright so after playing around with it for a few minutes what I can say is RR is FANTASTIC!!!! although I didn't go into the whole difficult stuff, I did setup the HDD music, Sirius, HD radio, Video and the UAS seems to work on it's own so I didn't need to change anything there. For those who say RR is much more complicated than CF, I don't know, to be honest it was a whole lot easier to setup RR. The good part about it is that things actually WORKS when it's setup. With CF when you turn on radio, sirius wouldn't work, the settings would change for no reasons, volume would auto go to max, ugh, it was a nightmare and made me want to trow a double din back in.
Now at this point all I need to do is:
- Setup amplifier control on the MJS I/O relays so that my amp turns on when RR turns on
- Setup Iguidance. (I saw a few old post about how to do so, nothing for IG2011 but some stuff for IG4
- Setup bluetooth phone to work with my Iphone 4
Other than that, it's pretty much it for now... Then after I'll start looking for other cool plugins to add in later.
If anyone can help with those 3 things, even if it's links on how to's that would be great
I'm quite happy to see a program that finally works though! And it's free.... damn
This morning I got IGuidance to work but the map doesn't move. I do see my current speed and the buttons on the side works too. I'm guessing this probably has to do with the xport thing where I need to have the GPS port split in two?
Yes, Xport takes your GPS Com port, say you have it plugged into COM1. You tell it to use COM1 for the GPS device, and than can set up say COM@ for iGuidance, COM3 for RideRunner ect. Have a look at the stickies on where to get it, and how to set it up. It is fairly simple to do.
Now I got into my first hiccup with RR. My GPS device right now is on COM3
After downloading and installing XPort the program automatically found my GPS device COM3 and made the second Port as COM2. In the IGuidance, I have the Port set as COM3 and in RRconfig for GPS the port as COM2. Now the GPS works fine, I get both my speed reading and my location on the map but now sirius as stop working completely and I get no sound from the HD Radio?
When I turn RR I get this message:
Sorry, The sirius Radio could not be found. Check comport settings
(Sirius is Set on Port COM4) I double checked it on devices & printers. Port is set to COM4 on RRconfig under sirius as well
As for the HD radio the port is set to COM5. Same here, on RRconfig the port is set to COM5 in radio settings. It started doing this after installing XPort and setting up that additional COM2 for the GPS.
I'm sure it's probably not a big issue, I just don't really know what I should do
I should also add, with XPort, I also tried different settings:
COM3 in RRconfig and in IGuidance = I would get the speed on my GPS but would not get my location on the map (This is how I had it before XPort)
COM3 in IGuidance and COM2 via Xport in RRconfig = I get both speed and location on map but get the sirius error and no sirius, no radio
While using COM3 as the GPS device, I added COM2 via Xport in Iguidance and COM6 via Xport in RRconfig = Got the same result as above, no sirius, no radio
While using COM3 as the GPS device, I added COM2 via Xport in IGuidance and in RRconfig = I couldn't test the GPS but I still got the same error for sirius and no sound in sirius and radio
I do get sound no problem when just playing the music on my HDD
I am not sure how it is interfering with COM4, that is strange...
you said: "XPort the program automatically found my GPS device COM3 and made the second Port as COM2. In the IGuidance, I have the Port set as COM3"
You need to change the ports, and am surprised it is working actually. You need to have XPort use COM 3, and create 2 NEW ports, one for RR and one for iGuidance, say COM2 and COM5. Come 3 is "in use" by Xport, and should not be working for iGuidance as well.
Now I started having random blue screen... not sure if this is related. I also have no clue on how to check why and what is causing the bluescreen
I'm using this program: http://www.curioustech.net/xport.html Just incase I'm using a different one than others here. It seems weird that all this happen right after installing the program...
This way at least I'm doing it the right way, even if the other method worked. (Could be what was causing crashes, who knows...)
As for the no Audio problem on HDRadio and Sirius as well as that error I get when opening RR for my MJS sirius radio, I don't know what is causing it. Would it be safe to say I should maybe unistall xPort just to see if the program is what was causing the problem?
when iguidence was trying to steal com3 from Xport, xport probably was doing a search to try to find a GPS port, so it would actually cycle all available ports to see if there is a GPS feed..that is why you were having problems with hd radio etc..
