This really is just a matter of defining how we all (RR users) see this should work, there's no right/wrong way as I see it, it's just a matter of choice.

Mitch is correct on what I am trying to accomplish, and I agree with you guino. But I could see this being a great addition to RR if you were able to navigate screens like on an iphone, ipad, etc. It would make it much more touch friendly. Well you can already navigate the screens that way, but the transitions is what makes or breaks it, imo. Maybe if there is enough interest in something like this there could be two types of transitions, the old style and the new style, so it wouldn't effect older skins.

It would be nice if when I swipe the screen to go to a specific screen it will do one transition, or if I press a button to go to that same screen it could do a different transition.

^^^ Awesome stuff. Yes, iPhone like transitions when you browse pictures, or navigate the apps in the springboard. Maybe it could be added that little bounce when you reach the end for added effect?

I have an app on my J/B iPad that let's me use the regular horizontal transitions and also vertical transitions too. It works very well in that you can limit the amount of sliding (say, 5, 6 pages to the right and back). This way we could go one up (say phone) one down (nav) one to the left and then the rest to the right, or whatever. In the iPad you can choose how many rows and colums you want, from a cross shaped to say, 3 rows and six columns, etc.

I really would like to avoid having to use little "arrow" buttons to navigate pages in a touchscreen, be it inside RR or inside a plugin.

since I have stared using voice for a short while in the car, I find that i don't nearly touch my Touch screen all that much. Those times, are when I might want to do something and doesn't really want to interrupt the music.

I think, the general consensus is that to help keep RR relative to the current times, it needs to be updated to mimic more what users are used to, smart phones and/or pads.

That's me too, as they just take too long, when just displaying the screen I'm going to is much quicker and when in a car, quicker is better. I'm not usually one for the "Bling" factor, b/c even at some point, "Bling" gets old and boring...

That is the case with any touchscreen, doesn't matter if it has a swiping feature or not. imo. Watching movies and DVD's or browsing the web isn't exactly safe to do while driving either, yet that is part of RR. Probably safer than text and driving though, lol

    What is safe? really?

Having said that, I welcome swipe gestures in the car. It's no worse than timed windshield wipers controls, actually, it's much better than looking for a "next page" button.

I'm talking about the timer. Do you know how do you get faster/slower intermittent wipes? Just turning on and off is easy. Another example would be the rear wiper, some car you pull/push a lever, some others you twist a knob.

The whole thing is aggravated if you change cars frequently (like me, I drive either car any given day), or if you travel and have to rent cars. THEN you realize that there are a lot of little differences that would be better if they were not there (for "safety").

    Hi guys,

Very interresting thread, I have been trying to setup the "slide" screen transition ipad-like for a bit now, and just managed to get it sort of working following the info on here.

Of course I end up with the same results as dlane2155, the slide works but the first change of direction always fails. I have also setup the transition to only "slide" when using finger drag, and fade when using a button, but again, the first change of transition always fails.

Currently I am using the effectin and as expected the new skin slides on top on the old one. I was wondering if making using the effectout could help, but for some reason I see no difference, between effect in and effect out. I was expecting the effect out to have the old skin "slide off" revealing the new skin, was I wrong?

Another question would be is there a way to get a skin to refresh it's variables just before "ending" or "starting" without reloading the entire page (which triggers a new transition)?

I'll keep you informed as I go

    Cheers,
    bebetaz
