that is correct, the preset ONLY saves the BASE freq... does not store the substation, due to the fact it may not be there and leave the tuner in limbo
After adding a preset to an HD substation, pressing the preset would tune to the main station instead of the substation. Here is how I can reproduce the problem every time:
- Tune to a local HD radio station with multiple substations (i.e., 88.7 FM HD-1, HD-2, HD-3)
- Press the Next Stream button to tune to a subtation (i.e., 88.7 FM HD-2)
- Add to a preset
- Tune to another radio station
- Press the preset created in step 3
- RR will tune to the main stations instead of the substation (i.e., 88.7 FM HD-1 instead of 88.7 FM HD-2)
This is using Directed HD and Mitch's cable. I can also reproduce this same issue in Mitch's HD Radio PCR app and Centrafuse 4. I have already posted over on Mitch's forum and Centrfuse forum respectively but have not received any solutions yet.
The only thing that does work is the Commander/Display that comes with the Directed HD. If I plug the Commander in instead of using Mitch's cable, I am able to save a substation to a preset and subsequently pressing the preset to tune back to that substation properly. It does take a few extra seconds to tune to that substation though. I appears the Commander first tunes to the main station, then waits for HD to lock, then switches to the substation. While this is taking place, the radio is muted until the substation is tuned in.

Thanks for the quick response Mitch! How doe that differ from a BASE station that may not be there, perhaps due to outside of tuning range? Also, Directed Commander seems to be able to tune to substations using presets so they must have overcome the issue you are referring to. Is there a way to mimic what the Commander has done?
the tuner would tune analog, and you would hear no station, vs complete slience...
sure feel free to reverse engineer the protocol, i got a few hundred hours into it
kidding asside, i dont have any plans to change the tuning command to allow a direct HD tune
maybe someday, but its not on my list of thingys to do...
i debated it... but kept it simple and just tell tuner to tune to the base analog feq
-Thanks
