Actually with musicbrainz it can. It uses the digital thumbprint and grabs the info from an online database with virtually no input from the user. With over 100k songs, I need something like that. :)
Cool. Thanks Mitch.
digital thumbprint? that is scary... seems like some kind of guesswork, specially with all differnt encodings, VBR ABR differnt bit rates...im gonna check it out
thanks
One thing I noticed with my problem, before I checked "Show ID3 Playlist" and "Show ID3 Browse", was that no info would show up until I got to the 15th track in my playlist. After track 15 everything was fine. Mitch posted a screenshot of RR config on the first page of this thread. Checking those boxes made everything work for me.
I use mp3tag, but as I use Windows Media Player to rip CD, usually the tag data is correct. I use mp3tag to embed album art. In the program is has links to Amazon to get the artwork, but I found that albumartexchange.com (free) has really good scans. I right click on the picture, and "save picture as". Then I use a photo editor to make them 500x500, then I use mp3tag to embed. It works great so far.
Changed metadata in Winamp and so far so good.
Since now RR is providing the tags... dont ask where is this documented
also, why would you want it the other way... well... hard to explain, it was for tracks (non file based) that update their metadata (urls)
but with my webradio plugin, and the shoutcast plugin, its prob obsoleted
and RR tagg reading is quite good now, compared to year ago
Maybe that's why I had it the other way. I've had that setting for years. Seems OK now.
FWIW, I ended up buying that magic mp3 tagger and did a test batch of 1500 songs. They came out perfect.
wow on that magic deally!
