    Random Sirius & HD Radio errors upon opening RR

    Every now and then I will get an error for Sirius and or HD Radio error upon opening RR (usually only one at a time). Not sure the exact wording but something that it can't find it and check the comport and need to restart RR. Immediately then I check the device manager and see if they are in there and make sure the comports has not changed and it is there and correct.

    What could be causing the problems loose connection? but which ones if Windows sees them?
    Hardware failing?

    I use the HDR-USB & SC-C1

    Everything is the latest like RR, flash, Winamp, Wndows updates I have had trouble on Win 7 32bit & Win XP
    Win 7 Pro 64bit, 4gb DDR2 Ram, q6600 Processor, Solid state drive & 7200 drive, Andrea mic, Sirius, DE HD Radio, Opus power supply, 10.4" touchscreen.

    Yes, this happens, on all 3 of my systems, but I given up on complaining about anything to do with RR and just accept it for what it is
    TruckPC - gutted, being used for test setup
    BoatPC - All in 1 in cuddy, N7 using VNC on dash, RR
    BlazerPC - Nexus 7 with Timur's USBROM

    Mine does it every so often not to complain like it is a burdon or anything. Just thought I would see if there was a simple fix.

    Sorry to hear that you have so many problems. I have used RR for many years and never really had any big problems. Most of my problems were my own doing not knowing what I am doing

    I have the HD radio, and sometimes this error happens to me.

    I don't know if is a delay of the HD radio to show up when windows came from hibernation or is a problem of RR.

    michaelrj9, its telling you the truth, it cant find the comport...

    now you need to solve why its not there...

    1. its usb, and usb takes time.... since you didnt tell me when it happens, like from a resume, or fresh power up
    2. somethng else is grabing the comport, right when your starting up... again, more info on how rr is starting

    so more infomation is needed...

    if the pc is on for a while, and opening RR causes this... maybe you start something else at same time... like preloading GPS

    but if you can get it to happen, on some consistent basis, we can solve

    remember there is a usb delay for resume, since it takes time for devices to get back on, at resume time
    one thing is, try to plug in these things not through a hub, as that adds more time
    -Thanks

    Hi,

    I don't use Hibernation or sleep modes.
    The error happens at random times (only upon starting RR) Upon Windows starting or even it PC is on for a while.
    I have my RR shortcut in the Windows startup folder so it automaticaly loads up upon starting Windows. The error also happens if I close RR and reopen it immediately or even if I wait minutes or hours. Example the computer is in my house now and has been on all day and if I open up RR there is a chance it will show that error.

    I use the DFX skin but also happens on carwings.
    I don't have any additional preloading screens but I do use xport for RR GPS, & GPS software(s)
    This is how I have my comports setup manually by me.
    XPORT = 18 comport
    RR config (GPS) comport 11
    Garmin = 5
    Iguidance = 6
    Igo = 7
    Destinator = 8
    Irman (IR receiver) = 3
    HD Radio = 12
    Sirius = 13
    Bluetooth dongle uses 2 & 4

    It is very random. I can go weeks and no problems then sometimes it seems like it happens a lot more frequent (every few times or so).

    Any more inro need please let me know.

    Thanks

    Mine fail on RR startup, usually coming out of hibernation, but sometimes from a cold boot. One system doesn't have hubs, other two do.

    I've always thought RR should wait a while before throwing these errors, since all you need to do is restart RR for everything to be happy, but if your coming out of hibernation back into radio or XM mode, waiting really isn't an option.

    davedog, rr does wait... wait for opening the devices on resume, thats what the setting resume delay is for
    now, clean start, rr doesnt access the comport right away... its a little into its start up sequence
    but its telling you the truth, it cant get it...
    so.. 1 something else had it, like gps sw, looking for a gps puck...

    michaelrj9, you got a lot going on there, when you start RR, are you starting any of thoes gps apps?
    for you with so much going on, going to be very hard to solve, especially when it doesnt happen often
    how i would approch it, is remove everything but hd and sirius...
    then add things back in...
    like i said very hard, if it doesnt happen often...

    keeping debug on, then when it happens, attach a debug for me to stare at

    you prob have to solve this yourself...

    if you turn on radio module debug...

    here is an example, when it tried to open a port, that some other program had open...

    00:43:06.046: HDRadio---> HDRadioEventCommError: Error= TestforRadio(): Access to the port 'COM6' is denied.
    -Thanks

    Granted I alaways cold boot (it's fast anyway) I never have seen any startup error with HD radio or Sirius unless I actually have some problem (i.e. power or data cable unplugged). I do use the line in plugin for sirius and once in a long while it seems to startup sirius and instead of displaying the channel list it shows the winamp linein entry only (as if it was in music mode) but it does start the sat radio - no error is displayed when I get this but since it's so rare I never really dug into it.

    Regarding the port not being ready issue, maybe we could add some sort of long retry+timeout (say try every second for up to 30 seconds and only then show an error if didn't eventually open) - for GPS for instance we retry constantly if the port isn't available. I guess this would require some "fake on mode" where we'd be in HD or Sirius mode even if it wasn't found yet (if we don't already do that to some extent).

    Just a quick recap.
    I always do a cold boot and the error is very random. It does it as soon as RR finished loading (or almost) from a cold boot or even if I have the computer running for hours & then open RR. From this debug the computer has been running all day & I then opened RR. First I looked in the device manager and checked if I saw sirius was in there and to confirm the comport #. I then double checked in RR config at the comport #. I then opened up RR and the rest is in the debug.

    Thanks
