    ok, use this rrconfig
    test and let me know

it should maintain encodings now on rr.ini, skin.ini, exectbl.ini, general.ini

keep in mind, skin.ini isn't supported by RR in Unicode (YET)

i see a problem, since skin.ini isn't support in Unicode and SAVETOINI will loose encodings!

    so.. keep skin.ini ANSI!

    for now

good thing is rrconfig, shouldn't touch the encoding now...

hopefully all your Chinese stays intact
    -Thanks

Hi mitchjs, I tried the new rrconfig but no success. Details as below:
    1. After run the new rrconfig, all Chinese words were changed to question marks (???), instead of strange characters as the previous version rrconfig.
    2. Manually edit Chinese characters in exectbl.ini file (in skin folder) with notepad, save as unicode, no Chinese showing on RR skin (it is blank there).
    3. Manually edit exectbl.ini file and save as ANSI, RR skin showing Chinese correctly.

rr should support Unicode exectbl.ini (I say should, since my self never had one with Chinese chars in it)

rr config should NOT TOUCH the file encoding!!

I think that's correct on 1st run, since your file is ANSI, and rrconfig is Unicode based
you will see ??? but if you START as a Unicode file... it should be ok

like I said you can use ANSI, but it will only work for your region, ie, the file would be useless to me

if u save exectbl.ini as ansi, then use rrconfig v1.0.17, did the file change?
    it still should be ansi
actually, it will be the DEFAULT CODEPAGE that's a better way to say it

best ATTACH Unicode version of your exectbl.ini file.... (rename as .txt)
best ATTACH ANSI version of your exectbl.ini file.... (rename as .txt)

it may be unrelated to file encoding, but how data is manipulated
I wont be able to read it, but I can do file compairs

Hi mitchjs, I attached several exectbl files and skin snopshots for both before and after running the new version RRConfig. You can tell the conditions by the file names.

From the files you can see:
    1. Before rrconfig, only ANSI encoding exectbl showing Chinses correctly on skin; with Unicode encoding the skin showing blank for Chinses. Seems RR cannot recognize the Chinese characters from unicode file correctly.
    2. After rrconfig, ANSI encoding file was corrupted with ???. Even RRconfig does not affect the Unicode file, but as above mentioned, RR does not recognize the unicode characters in exectbl, just showing blank on the skin.

I ASSume you are testing with CARWINGS

any other skin, I cannot say... they might touch the files...

that looks like DFX5.x I cannot go further, I will confirm RRConfig doesn't corrupt files
    -Thanks

the before and after files are identical
bottom line, RRCONFIG doesn't corrupt the file
    when Unicode

when ANSI, its saving a wrong codepage...
because there is NO markings in an ANSI file, where the hell the text is from
that's why no one should be using ANSI files anymore!!!
    (unless western chars)

    STAY UNICODE

the exectbl too complicated for me to play with...

if you want me to verify that rr is pulling in the Unicode file, modify one from carwings

    or create a demo skin

with just MENU.skin, with some use of exectbl

see the same files ANSI for me, don't have your chars in it (not Chinese)
i will attempt to see if i can get some locale info into RRCONFIG for an ANSI file

each locale will show different chars, that's why ANSI needs to be avoided
