I did peek inside the skins.zip and found that the skin files are quite similar to those for the windows version.

Now is my question, will any windows skin be easily modified for RRa?

that also brings me to another thing, plugins...

Do you have a vision of how and what or are you not there yet?

For the skins it depends on whether they require a plugin or exe to work properly.

the later DFX range has it's own plugin to get all the features
the iDrive skins also use a plugin to work.

Plugins at the moment will not work. They would all have to be re-written to run on the android platform

ok, so the skins that do not require any plugins to work are 1:1 usable, no changes required?

As long as they are just the graphic files and text files I would say yes.

bear in mind some may rely on blues RRExtended.dll plugin.

I have to question why you'd want RR on Android. I don't mean this sarcastically, but out of genuine interest.

With Windows 8.1 tablets (not RT) around the $300 mark for a Dell 8" (I may have just answered my question there... plenty of Android tablets in the 7" range), why the desire to have RR on Android?

Are there AM/FM/Sirius/XM tuners available for Android? Is app embedding supported on Android? (Media player, navigation, etc... running at the same time in the same interface)?

    Just curious more than anything.

android development has momentum, windows does not,

ride runner development has come to a screeching halt and almost all the players have taken their ball and gone home

the windows 8.1 tablets are impressive, even tho they do not have GPS,

I have a nexus 7 with USBRom, (also taken his ball home) and I think RR on windows is still better

I wish we had better bluetooth implementation, and voice recognition (also taken his ball home)
TruckPC - gutted, being used for test setup
BoatPC - All in 1 in cuddy, N7 using VNC on dash, RR
    BlazerPC - Nexus 7 with Timur's USBROM

The reason I see to have RR on android is simple in my mind.

Now you have to use several different apps to get the same functionality as you have with any Frontend, and what RRa does is give you one interface for everything you need.

Of course it is in alpha stage, so not everyting works yet, but its a journey some of us will take to help create the 'perfect' android FE.

Also with the possibility to customize or create a new skin you will always have the look you want , in stead of what app makers think they want you to have.

I'll probably get flamed for this, but it is a question that I'm really curious about.

    1. Who decides what I need? RR can't magically re-skin any of the apps available in the Android market, so the only apps that will look like RR are that come with it, or are written for it.
    2. Android doesn't work like Windows. It's not designed to have more than one application on screen (in the foreground) at a time. That makes "embedding" native Android apps into a frontend almost impossible. Not saying it can't be done, but it's not going to be easy.
    3. Again only for those apps that RR creates. No way to alter the look and feel of somebody else's app.

So if you discount the app market because the market apps don't integrate properly with RR, and certainly don't have a consistent "look and feel", then what, exactly, did moving to Android bring to the table?

Okay, I've lobbed that one out over the plate...somebody take a swing.
