It's a Alpha Version! maybe to test what is possible. or just for fun.
If you don't like it, nobody say to load or use it!

I think the developer already know, that android is not the same like windows.

    I couldn't agree more

and as for the look/feel or whatever of an app , say navigation for example , in windows your stuck with how it looks too , you embed it into whatever you use and thats it. some programs have more functionality than others, but thats it.
Also music, video and some other stuff are handled by the FE itself , that can be done in android just like we have in windows.

And isnt this community all about doing something because we want to , not regarding what others tell you?

I believe that is the thing what made this community big in the first place.

A base hit. Of course, building it "just for the fun" is good enough. Whether it's on Android, iOS or MPE/iX, the challenge is the point. And I'll admit (as my avatar might indicate) that I'm not a "regular" user of RR, although I occasionally load it up to see what's going on.

My question was really more directed toward the users rather than the developers. What are your expectations? Are those expectations realistic given what Android is currently capable of? What do you perceive as the benefits derived from a move to the Android OS? "New", "fun" or "different" are perfectly valid reasons and if that's all there is to it, that's cool.

Anyway, 2014 promises to be an exciting year for the carPC community and I'm looking forward to seeing how this project proceeds.

    Happy New Year!

I can imagine "RRa music player" in the market for .99 and while you at it get "RRa video player" for another .99 and soon.. Those would be stand-alone apps developed by different people (maybe) but must follow the RRa concept

Lets face it, you can imitate RR in Android TODAY by just using a skin image as wallpaper and overlay invisible widgets to trigger individual existing android apps.

I'm all for development of RRa (if that's what it's called) but not for what it can do today but for what it could become in the future. Look at how far "RR" has come.

Powerful apps like Tasker and Xpose framework can be used to do something or overcome obstacles.

Last and most important (IMO) it's much easier to stick a tablet behind the dash than it is a computer and monitor.

Until an app loads and covers up the wallpaper. If I have a map displayed, I don't want to hit a home button so I can open up a music player and skip to the next song. I want the media controls displayed alongside the map app. Can that be done?
Some links added by the forum, I did not add them, they are not necessarily representative of my thoughts or opinions. Links may have been edited in without my permission.

Sure you can! off the top off my head i can think of the "pie control" (or similar) app and there maybe a lot more apps that can do it. Wether that (or something similar) can (or should) be incorporated into RRa, i don't know, but how else would we know if we don't try.

If your question "can that be done" is in a negative tone, then all i can say is the executives at "kodac" wish they had answered "lets try and see" instead of "no"

don't want to derail this thread but since there is an android beta.... would/could there be a linux port in the near future? I have an udoo as well but I need the linux image for other aspects of my build
