Serial read/write? Aka interfacing with an arduino

I am trying to decide on if I want to go with a car pc on my next build and decided it'll primarily hinge on arduino integration. Does RR have the ability to communicate with and arduino via the serial signal on the com port?

45 views and no input. I have been thinking about this for a while now and after reading the faq http://www.mp3car.com/rr-faq/86680-h...n-with-rr.html I think i have a very simple 'hack' that will get some basic functionality and a sudo 'serial' interface of sorts. the Arduino can simulate keyboard presses, so instead of serial, it can communicate that way. I assume it doesn't really help if you need a realtime analog input but it's a hack for now. but that doesn't solve the output issue... only input

another option is to embed an processing2.js app

You should have a look at phidgets. There are plugins or built in support for CF, RR and Driveline will do all you want and analog too. Just a suggestion SNO

If you really desire that you could always look at the code for the phidgets plugin and built your own plugin...

What arduino are you using for keyboard emulation?

Also what information are you trying to communicate between the arduino and RR?

you can use a mega adk for the keyboard emulation.

    things i want to control:
    outputs:
    seat heaters
    power locks,
    power windows
    possibly distance sensor

    inputs:
    rotary encoder
    capacitance buttons
i have a shield that will take voice commands which i'd like to map them to certain functions.

i'd probably set it up so you dont need to have the pc running to use most of the features (door locks, windows etc...)
