I agree with you that the CD is obsolete now, but who uses only audiophile CD AUDIO
Probably because Foobar also reads CD-TEXT which not all programs can do. I'm not sure how much RR does vs Foobar but I imagine it's because RR doesn't do CD-TEXT.

This is why FLAC is great. Lossless audio, sounds better than the CD. I'm a huge stickler for audio quality. I can hear the compression in 320k MP3s, drives me nuts. FLAC is the only way to fly.

Yeah I don't think I'm grasping what you're saying. FLAC is a bit for bit perfect representation of the audio data on a CD (as long as no uncorrectable read errors occur), there is zero quality difference. In many cases the quality is better if the optical drive isn't using digital audio extraction; playing like a normal CD player. Even then, some audio quality could be lost when the optical drive skips over areas of the CD that it can't read correctly.

Foobar plays back FLAC just fine. You can even tag your FLAC just like MP3s, with all the artist and track info you want. If you're an audiophile, why are you using CDs? I'm not poking fun, I'm really curious as to why you think the original CD is better than FLAC.

i don't think foobar is reading the CD_TEXT, its prob using the FREE CD database, when it sees a whole cd, it sends some data to the database
    and gets a hit...
I could be wrong, but when I open a SINGLE cda file right in foobar, I don't get any track/artist info

    anyway... this endeavor is ended

    rip the dam cD!
    -Thanks

therefore in conclusion, RR from this point of view is limited.
    Here's an example:
And 'unthinkable that a friend of mine come in the car with a CD to listen to it. and I should rip to make him listen. ahahhah

well... the cd I used, either doesn't have CD-TEXT or my CDROM doesn't support it
in any case, RR has its own tag reading...since RR for one there is NO METADATA in a .cda file
    RR has nothing to get!

RR doesn't officially support .cda anyway... remember rr doesn't itself play ANYMEDIA (technically, it depends on 3rd party)
if I could parse cd-txt from the .cda I would consider it, but you cant

just deal with your friends CD with "track01"...
    -Thanks

and I still not sure it read the CD-TEXT, based on the filename CDDA:// and that hex number
that's enough information to send to the freecddb
you disconnected from network at the time?
    -Thanks

Haha! Tell your friend to get with the times and bring a thumb drive with MP3s or FLACs on it next time!

mitcjs I confirm that my CD burner writes and reads CD-Text. and that even without internet connection metadata read them equally
