HD Radio, Serial Cable and Driver?

    Hi Mitch,

I am trying to set back up my HD radio using your serial cable but I am not able to get the unified driver (v. 8 or 10) to work on my system. Windows see the cable as serial mouse but when I go to change the driver, it says its not a Windows 7 32bit file. I can't get the HD PCR Radio to connect either.

Should I use another driver for this cable or how should I get it to connect?

The radio works with the control module and it powers on and off without any problems.

    Win7 32bit
    RR 8/1
    DFX 5.12
    Visteon HD Tuner
    MJS Serial Cable

    Thanks for your help
    Gee

Try disabling the serial ball mouse in device manager, you only need to use the com port for using the HD radio, also set to 115200 for baud rate Hope this helps SNO

    Ok...I will try that.

    Thanks for replying

    Edit...

I tried that with other baud rates as well as with the other standard settings and it still didn't connect. I'm testing with the HD Radio PCR software. I'm using com port 1 and other com ports works with other apps. COM2 is XM and that's working fine.

    try uninstall, and reinstall driver
it will see it as a comport, and windows shouldn't try to install a mouse driver
    don't worry about baud rate...

maybe something is wrong with cable or the hd radio... try another pc

ideally windows downloads a driver from windows update, ill be it older driver, but fine for win7

    -Thanks

I tried plugging and unplugging the cable and this time, it does not see it at all. So, I can't get it to pop back up to configure it now. I originally had this working on XP with another PC and it worked fine but now I can't get it to work on that PC either. So, I will have to look at getting another cable. My radio part works fine.

Now, I just have to decide do I find another serial cable (you have any by chance Mitch) or go with the USB cable. I have a lot of usb ports tied up.

Mitch, I appreciate you checking in on this.

    Thanks,
    Gee

Are you using the actual serial cable or the USB cable?

If you are using a Serial cable you may have one that is not compatible with your computer. Try a different serial cable and see if it works. USB to Serial cables are hit and miss with some computers. When Laptops first stopped having serial ports this was a big issue.

I am using the serial cable and I have a newer motherboard. I don't have any other serials devices or cables (might have to find one somewhere). I may just have to purchase the USB type but I already have a lot of USB devices plugged in.

If you are using a dongle to convert the serial cable to a usb port to connect to your computer I am sure that is your problem. Get the usb hd cable from the store/mitch/mo-co-so and you will be happy SNO

Yes USB to serial dongles or cables are hit an miss with any motherboard. I have one of the latest and greatest ASUS gaming motherboards and I have 2 different serial adapters for it and one works and the other doesn't while both work fine on my ASUS laptop.

Luckily they are cheap enough... Or as Sno said you can just buy the USB cable Mitch sells.
