Calling all Skinners! (RR needs u!)

as i said, making a skin look "flashy" doesen´t mean that you can´t make it easy to use, i´m not talking about making a skin thats hard to USE, just nice to look at, of course the skin shoulden´t be more looks than functionality but that´s where the skinners come in...
my style/taste may differ from what you like, but that doesen´t make your taste better/worse, just different...
this CAN be done, and has been done....how do i know that? have you EVER seen a pioneer, alpine, kenwood etc etc stereo with a look even similar to a car pc´s? for example the brushed skin in mediacar? i shure haven´t...
the problem is not making the skin, it´s coming up with a working concept that combines both style and usability in an enviorment like a car...and THATS a big challenge...

The Febsperanza BrushedMetal skin has got success because looks good and is very easy to use. AngelGR, i think that we can try to improve that skin! I agree your political.

i've done alot of graphics for homepages in my time so...
and by the way this is my first post so hi all

all the submenus have the buttons in the same places so its easier to use (like audioplayer window) when u'r driving
only spend 2 hours on it so i used some of the graphics from brushed metal

But that's what I was trying to say... maybe it's my bad english. The criticism was about your previous example, it's not something... personal with your style/taste.

mmmm, I don´t understand. So you´re saying that the pioneer, alpine, etc look is the way to go... and I agree. But the most similar thing that we have now is the Febsperanza´s skin. And of course, your first example was not that style...

I don't agree again. The problem isn't the concept, it's MAKE the skin. The concept is clear, at least for me. Of course, I´m not talking about ONE skin, the different styles and needs can be reflected on a lot of different skins, but I think that you can see what I want to do... something that look like a dash board, clean, easy of use, with a point of "beauty" and realistic. Maybe it's not original, you can say that it's an updated Brushed Steel, but that's what I need.

Let's work. If somebody that likes what I'm doing could help me with the icons... Thanks

No, what i´m saying is that there are layouts/designs that can be both flashy and still have their user-friendly side intact..

yeah shure i do! i don´t think your skin looks bad or anything but what i´m saying is that we might need more skins then just 3-4, just so that the software can reach out to as many different people as possible..
then people can choose a clean, easy to use setup if they like it, or maybe they can have an abstract, more fuzzy like if they want that! this thread is from what i understand, a collection of ideas, sudgestions and thoughts, used to make a variety of looks for a terrific software, and by doing so, it won´t matter what the "client" wants his software to look like, the software will be great because we can let every user reflect his taste of looks in this software. The functions are already there

people know.. it's actually one of the best...
but think of this.... i just sold my alpine HU... is a nice and very very good looking HU
but why make a skin that looks just like the alpine HU when u got a lcd screen in your car.. if u wanted that look hell why not just buy the headunit instead?

Why not? I like the look, and also the continuity with my headunit.

Because a headunit cant do all that a PC can, and the headunits that I have seen with lcd's are very expensive and the GUI looks like crap.

It really doesn't matter what kind of skin you choose, as long as you like it.

@more mods: Hey, best skin around. I mean it. Brushed Metal is just too conservative for me. Just wish you could keep up with all new features of RR (like TV screen).
