Great work! I've been following your work since I'm working on doing the same thing for my Saab's steering wheel controls. The Saab is similar in that steering wheel commands are sent along the CAN bus.
ok.. I have altered the IBusComM app to get it to work with RR. I have changed the way IBusComM sends its buttons. You can still alter the buttons at the bottom of the .ini file to what you want. I have preset them as following
[ID:STW_PREV_PRES]
MsgTemplate="5004683B080F"
Label="S. Wheel < Press"
Parse=True
KeyboardMap="RRPREV"
[ID:STW_NEXT_PRES]
MsgTemplate="5004683B0106"
Label="S. Wheel > Press"
Parse=True
KeyboardMap="RRNEXT"
[ID:STW_PLUS_PRES]
MsgTemplate="50046832111F"
Label="S. Wheel + Press"
Parse=True
KeyboardMap="VOL+"
[ID:STW_MINUS_PRES]
MsgTemplate="50046832101E"
Label="S. Wheel - Press"
Parse=True
KeyboardMap="VOL-"
[ID:STW_PHONE_PRES]
MsgTemplate="5004C83B8027"
Label="S. Wheel phone Press"
Parse=True
KeyboardMap="MUTE"
[ID:STW_RT_PRES]
MsgTemplate="5003C8019A"
Label="S. Wheel - Press"
Parse=True
KeyboardMap="PLAY"
The KeyboardMap=" change here " is the command you need to enter. So if you wanted to change the MUTE button, so when you press it, it takes you make to the main menu, then the RR code for this is "MAIN". Check out the Skin commands text file thats in your RR folder for more command.
I havent stuck it in my car yet, but I would of thought there wont be a problem.. just remember to set the correct com port. I have stuck both RR and RR I-Bus in my start folder so when the PC boots they both start.
have fun !

Done this on the 306 using the steering controls and hacking a PS2 keyboard, now have vol up and down and next and previous track, wish the remote stalk was more useful.
nice ! I just need to get me a BMW now..![]()

Can confirm it works 100%, on button press it returns focus to RR and sends the button. You may want to reverse the prev / next commands.. depending what skin your using. Anyway good news

Hi, CdRsKuLL.
I'd like to ask you something about the i-bus.
I have the i-bus connected to a Connects2 adaptor for a Sony MP3 CD-Charger (I use it just for having the AUX input in the Business OEM Radio of my BMW323i, and I connect the Carputer Output to it, for listening the Audio by selecting the CD Input).
Anyway. If I connect the i-bus directly to the Reslers interface, I loose the AUX (CD) imput in the Business, and the Ibuscomm doesn't receive any signal from the i-bus cable (however it works perfectly if I simulate the steering wheel press button from the application).
I have also tried to keep the i-bus connected to the Connects2 interface and to join some cables for connecting them to the Reslers interface, but it happens the same. The ibuscomm doesn't seem to do anything.
Do youy have any idea of what the hell is happening?
Maybe the "MsgTemplate" code is different in Spain?
Maybe the Reslers interface is not working? How can I know if it's receiving signal from the ibus?
Thans a lot for anything you can tell me.
cool, this sounds great.
I am one up on Guino, I have the BMW.... hold on.....
dam, i dont have an i-bus or stearing wheel with buttons....
Is the controller for the i-bus in the stearing wheel or is the control part of the cars system? Or in other words, can I upgrade to a button wheel which will include an i-bus? Then all i need is the i-bus to 232 adapter.

That's something I'm trying to work out.Originally Posted by Freakers
I have obtained an E46 MF steering wheel that is the same shape as my E36 one. I have got the little interface card but have not been able to get any info from the keys.
Also the fitting of the steering wheels is different (well the main fittings are the same it's the damn slip ring which is different and it looks like it's going to be a bugger to get it to fit. However will not tey and fit it till I can get a response from the steering wheel buttons.
If you let me know the model number and year (exactly) of the wheel i will look up the diagrams for it. As long as it has power and a circuit, i guess it will output data on the i-bus when a button is pressed. Then all that is needed is a i-bus to RS232 converter (and software) for the serial port. There is lots of info on this on this site as well as others.
Any chance of a detailed pic of the circuit?
Also, that ring sounds like a problem. Let me know how you get on.
Paul.
This is the wheel I have.
