    Audio library suggestion

I know this has been mentioned before Guino, and you are against using a datbase to store MP3 info, and for the most part I agree with being able to just throw a file or directory of MP3s and be able to play them without buidling a database.

But I also would love to be able easily do a keyword search on song title, or browse by artist (especially when I know that I have an artist's song on a various artists CD, but don't know which one!)

So how does this idea sound:
On the audio browse screen, have a button to toggle between file-browsing and database browsing. Instead of building the database on startup or by forcing a rebuild, have a low priority background process (possibly running as a service) which monitors file updates under the music directory at regular intervals.

Or is that just a bad idea?

Guino is implementing MP3 Searching of whole structures at some point, I think it is a bad idea to move to any sort of database, the lack of database is one of the reasons I use RR, no need to have any MDAC or Jet installed.

I'm think at most, If I ever decide to make some sort of database it will be a flat-text DB made from scratch with NO REQUIREMENTS whatsoever and it would still be optional.. I would not make a background service because if you copy a MP3 CD with 700 files in the drive, it will just make it slower, so it would be manually synced... The flat DB Idea would only be for ID3 Tags and would be completely Optional too.. but this is for down the road..

I certainly see your point Guino, with speed and versatility weighed up against functionality. I guess a more useful tool for searching through audio files would a half-screen OSK

Speaking of which, is anyone working on one? Will a seperate skin screen need to be created for the whole screen? Ie, one screen for the audio browser,, and a different screen for the half size OSK audio browser. Then the same for video browser, etc?

I just need a file like: "apposk.skin" to load when calling the "apposk" function -- that doesn't need any labels or anything.. just buttons .. and it mostly needs to be at most-half a screen size, and include buttons to move it up/down or a drag zone...

Hmm, surely it would be a trivial task to pull an OSK from one of the map monkey skins, and then make quick work of defining RR hotspots using ibooker's skin editor?

I would do it myself, but plenty of preparing to do before heading off for the long weekend. Maybe if noone else has done it by the time I get back I'll get onto it.

Is it not possible to just intergrate Winamp Media Library? you can create playlist, search etc very nicely with it but just needs a nice front end.
