    Mappoint not embedding

    Hi Guino,

I have the latest update installed (040805), but I can't get Mappoint to embed right. It embeds as 'external' gps, but then it just has the closing bar on top.
If I try to open it through the 'mappoint' menu button I just get the MC-like mappoint controls, but no Mappoint.
Also it keeps changing back to North America instead of Europe in the RR config screen.

    What am I doing wrong?

    Michael

    A few questions:

1-when you go into the mappoint option in the menu, does it show only the controls or does it show the black background with gree numbers on top ?
2-RRConfig may no be loading the setting right .. as long as your RR.INI has mappointmap=2 it should try to use mappoint Europe. what is in yout RR.INI ?
    3-What mappoint version do you have ? 2004, 2002 ?
4-Do a search on your machine and make sure you have a file called MappointControl.ocx in your system. If not, I urge you to try re-installing.

Lastly, make sure it's Mappoint you have and not Street&Trips -- because although they're almost the same thing, the last one will only run as an external app.

    hi Guino,

    1. It only shows the controls, not the black background w/t green numbers
    2. I put mappointmap=2
    3. I use Mappoint 2004
    4. I found MappointControl.ocx. It sits in the Mappoint 2004 directory.

Today it indeed gave the error "MappointControl.ocx not registered blabla". On my home pc I run the same setup (RR, MM, Mappoint 2004) and it works ok, but there I have no GPS.

Is there any way to register the .ocx? Instead of reinstalling Mappoint? I'm extremely keen on getting this behaving like it should. With the com-port switching and all.

    Thanks Michael

When Mappoint is installed it typically registers it. If not, you may be running something to prevent registry changes on your system or perhaps you've ran a system restore AFTER installing Mappoint. This can cause many issues. Here's what you do to register the ocx:

    -Click Start->Run
    -Enter CMD and press ok
-On the Black window, Type in those lines followed by enter:
    CD "\Program Files\<YOUR MAPPOINT FOLDER>"
    regsvr32 MappointControl.ocx

You should see "......succeeded." then it should work, at least until something or someone messes with your registry settings.

This OCX is the "core" of mappoint's integration with any application, without it propperly installed mappoint is limited to be used much like Streets&Trips.

    Let me know,
    Guino.

Ok, this worked! Mappoint runs at the same time as MM. Still have to get used to the routing. I thought that if I had a gps lock and a final destination I would be able to calculate a route, but I couldn't figure this out yet.

Many thanks, RR absolutely the best!

With a GPS lock, just go into the Route Planner and add 1 (ONE) location only, then click - ROUTE -> Cauculate and RR will automatically calculate the route to that location using the current GPS Position. The other option is to click the nearby location button and enter a radius like 1 (one) and it will then show you the current GPS position as a location as well. Also this is the only way (currently) of adding the Current GPS position into the favorites list.
