Cruise Control

Hi Guino,
is it possible to implement a Cruise Control command? It would be nice to control the cruise control from the car in RR. I know we can get the reading of the speed from the gps receiver or from the gps software. It only takes 3 relay contacts to control it. Let's say you cruising 55mph and talk to NaviVoice and say "Cruise Control On" then it would send a command to the relay board which turns on the cruise control in the car and sets the speed to 55mph. Now if you want to go faster you would say "Speed Up" and a relay contact would close and speed up the car, same thing if you would like to go slower then we could have an indicator on the screen for Cruise on or off and the set speed.

Use the Baseplugin/sdk to create yourself a little app to control the cruise control. Personally I don't think this is a good idea, what happens if the PC crashes etc??

Well, if the pc crashes then there is not one relay activated. Hit the brake pedal and it turns off or push the on/off button on the cruise control switch. I don't see any safety issue with this, but I see a safty issue with using the mixer and try to adjust 16 sliders or watch a DVD while driving.

Thats where common sense comes in. You're not supposed to watch movies while driving and it wouldn't be a good idea to set the sliders either. Do that while parked.
About the cruise, don't you have steering wheel mounted controls? I myself would just like my computer to cover the audio/video portion of my car, but I really don't want to have it take over any of the cars major functions. Just doesn't seem like a good idea for me.
But power to you if you want to try it out on yours!

Yes I do have steering wheel functions for that. I just like to have it also displayed on the screen. Since there is a computer in the car why not talk to it and have it turned on and controlled that way also.Just a thought.

I really think that's a good idea.. :nw:
only watch movies/dvd when speed is below 10 miles / 25 km.

My main menu as of now is set that when there is a speedo reading the buttons for DVD is disabled. Also in audio player the mixer button is disabled. Better safe than sorrow, esspecially California.

Control with voice sounds like a great idea ;)

You could definately do it with baseplugin and phidgets!!:)
