Don't be a smartass. You want to run DVD on an external screen. It makes a lot of sense to use an external DVD player. Think about it. Oh yeah, you can embed WinDVD or PowerDVD in RR rather easily.

I am aware of all the above. However I am not talking about DVD. I am talking about divx and other films on the harddrive, and want to use the built in (OK classic Media player is still an external player however it is effectively written in, in RR) video player.

But thanks for your input anyway.

I believe Arathranar was working on something to that effect... It is possible to do that, but then when exactly would you STOP the video from playing.. ? going into MP3/XM/FM ?

Well personally I would go back into the video player menu and press STOP.

Because you would have a setting in the RR.ini file, only those who would have second screens especially for video would need this and could set it. For everyone else they leave the setting as false and it behaves as it does now for them.

MP3/XM/FM would all be as normal and working at the same time, the sound going to a different soundcard.

I guess that could be done... I'd have to get a USB sound card for my laptop before I can test anything of that nature though... I only use my laptop for development and as you know, only PCMCIA or USB card work on it..

Well on the sound side, you can set winamp to choose which sound card you want it to go to or have it going to 'windows'.

the only problem I had when I was testing the two screens & two souncards was, how to control the volume of the second one. (but not too fussed at the moment as I see the sound being controlled by a second for headphones).

Hmmm wonder if MediaPlayer Classic can choose the soundcard it wants to output to. Will have a look tonight (if I remember)

If you could just impliment it without worrying about the sound too much for now. I can then test on my system. (As I said if there is a setting in the ini file it will only affect those that change the setting)

    Cheers

I like to have this option as well.
The Asus A7N8X-VM/400 has dual output VGA + Video/Svideo/DIV. Ofcourse, VGA for front monitor and the other for ceiling mount Video screen. Just send the Video to the back screen. All controls are still up front.
Another option I would like is an ability to send (dupplicate) GPS screen to the back screen so the kid can see where they are on the map instead of asking "Are we there yet". You know like those passenger screens GPS map on Boeing 747 on international fly.

[edit] For the Sound part, I don't really care that much.[/edit]

1-For different outputs (video one the back and controls up front) you'd need to extend your desktop over the the other monitor and some boards will only let you do that on a second VGA plug.
2-To copy the output to the back either I'd have to get that from the GPS application or you'd need to CLONE the screen onto the back (which basically conflicts with item 3-The only GPS app I'm in control of right now is Mappoint, so it isn't possible to do something like that with MM or FD (yet)...

I don't think I can control (by code) the method of display on a second monitor (clone/extend) since this seems fairly specific to different video cards..

i have a dual monitor setup at home and will have the same in my car and centrafuse supports this feature very well. Video will keep playing when your moving around in the menus UNLESS you change to another mode that required audio like the fm radio etc. But if your messing around in the apps section, gps etc, the video keeps playing on monitor 2. If all front ends could impliment this that would be great....
