Just to ask, is it possible to enable video to continue playing even when you come out of the video screen and go to any of the others, including GPS, audio etc.

A switch could be added to the ini file (video stay=true/false).
I like this option for 2 reasons.

1, I sometimes like the audio track of something, IE a concert

2, My gfx card auto outputs video to the 2nd output even when a player is minimized, so rear passengers can hear and see the concert while I have gps etc on the front.

This all works perfect for me in FP as its all done by the gfx card, all FP does is leave the video player running until I choose either to quit or go into FM/Audio playback modes.

What card do I use? Matrox marvel g400, has an option called DvdMax, all video is routed to the composite out in full screen, its all done in hardware.

I only started looking at RR due to the TV support, if I can ever get it working, I wll be a convert!

(TV problems are due to matrox drivers, the tv side of the drivers are very very unstable in xp with non matrox apps as matrox never did any xp drivers)

Yes, I have this basically working for me using mpc. I've been back in the UK visiting my sick mum for the last month so things came to a grinding halt.

I hadn't thought about the approach of displaying the video overlay on the 2nd monitor though. I didn't even know you could do that until I saw a friend doing it during the holiday. I think that should just work as-is, provided RR doesn't automatically stop the video playing on exiting the video skin (which is part of my change does this).

I added a new skin tag (USEVIDEO=1 if I recall correctly) for all skins that should leave the video playing. Menus are automatically ignored for the purpose of stopping the video.

I had one bug that I wanted to fix before I released a build of RR + my test skin. But I'm not a month or so behind on Guino's RR updates so I'll have to sync up to his changes and merge them into mine if people want the latest and greatest RR version + my changes.

Sounds good, all I need is RR to have the option of leaving the video playing when not in the video skin.

start with gps maybe as the video part would require audio which can be added on eventually

guino if you changed the code of rr to support 2 displays for example you can assign the **whatever**.skin to load on display 2 now if that skin happens to be gps no modification need be made as the sound and playback will continue as normal. maybe if u did it via a plugin that was its own instance of rr only capable of ext app and gps for now . to keep mem usage down

then rr can send the skin to it by defining the code gps.skin^2 would load the gps skin to rr 2.(second display) then by getting a proram lke ultra mon or having nvidias nview you can force rr2 to open on display2

    what do you think

I dont know how other cards do the 2 sceen thing, or if you have 2 cards?

On mine its done in hardware in the card somehow, once machine crashed and it left the DOS display on the tv.

all I need is for the video to lose focus and drop back+stay playing when I go to gps / menu's

I must admit I am running FP because it does this, but RR seems to embed GPS more smoothly for me

    now onto my nextpost............

I am writing an app in vb to display all the things you usually get on a dash, reason is I plan to remove the dash from my car and have a larger LCD etc.

So on this will be speed/rev/fuel/oil etc

I want to make it work with the major frontends and I have been looking at FP and RR

Want would I need to do to make an app that would work with RR and run embedded like the gps app?

Is it just as simple as keeping the window title fixed from 1 revision to the next ?

Can RR be set (ini file setting) to start and go into the app as opposed to starting on the main menu?

Can it be set to go back into the app after a timeout like a screen saver?

I did think of writing the app just as a screen saver, seems to solve it all!

    Ideas? suggestions? flames?

I've been running two Lilliputs for over a year now. The one in the headliner kinda gives you a kink in the neck if watched too long. ("But Officer its only for the kids in the back".)

    I'm using a matrox dual display card w/ ultramon ( http://www.realtimesoft.com/ultramon/ ) software.

I just started running RR (Great App. guino!, im an old MC user) this week. I can watch either movies or GPS via RR, and run the opposite in the headliner without any noticeable delays in either programs. Ultramon has many features for multiple card systems, I can force where on what screen a program will run on.

So basiclly, I'm using the indash monitor with RR, and use the above monitor as a computer to launch any program. Right now, I have the compass for xport2 up there for looks, until the kids want to watch something and I run WinDVD up there/

Not tried ultramon will look it up, I tried pivot software to rotate vga output 1 90 degrees so I could mount a 12'' touchscreen portrait style where my AC controls where, but the software goes mad when I try to start the dvd playback via the 2nd monitor output (rear 7'' headrests)

You'd need hardware rotate support for video playback! ATI & nVidia drivers support that for a lot of their cards.
