    Strange problem with CDRIp

Ok, So, CDRip is working fine in my house on my home pc. I recently updated to new RR Vers and everything is still fine if not better. I copied my whole RR Directory, skins and all, onto my carPC. Now, CDRIp loads correctly with skin, but will not read from CDROM. It won't display tracks. I tried updating ASPI. I suppose the problem could be with the drive number setting but Ive tried 1-6 nothing works. Any ideas? Also, how exactly should we know the drive #? I'm only familar with drive letter, Ive never seen a drive # setting.

just look in cdripcls.ini ... the drive numbers are in the order your drives are listed in there.. did you remember to run "presetup.bat" in the computer you copied the files onto ?

Yup I remembered to run presetup. I looked at CDRIPCLS.INI and drive number is 1 which is what CDRIP.INI has. CDRIP Does load and go into memory - I see CDRIP.EXE in processes - and I do get the skin to load, it just doesn't read from the CD ROM. I've tried two cD ROMs in there now too. I also copied the RR Directory to another computer and tried it and CDRIP works fine there too. It just won't work on my CARPC. This is annoying problem.

OK, heres one big difference - When I look at the CDRIPCLS.INI in my house vs my car, my house shows this at the top

    [JLMS____XJ-HD166S_______]

    My car shows this
    []

This is the CDROM, Why would it not be reading it? I have actually taken the CD Rom from my house outside and put it in the car and it still doesn't work

    Here are the CDRIPCLS files
The one on the right, Under the heading "Freeze" Is the non working car. The other is from my house pc which is fine. The differences I see are highlighted.

Hmmm ... check the ASPI versions on your CarPC

Can you read data cds in the car?

Yes I can read Data fine. I tried Updating ASPI in my car, I guess I never considered it could have been a bad update. Anyway, the plot thickens a bit. When I remove the CD ROM from the car and bring it inside to a different machine and hook it up. I run CDRIP and THE CDRIPCLS.INI recognizes the drive perfectly fine and the INI file starts with [LITEON CD-ROM LTN5326S].

SO it's definitely a problem with settings on my CAR PC. I can only think of ASPI. I'll try another update.

I was going to suggest that.. you can probably try another aspi based application (audiocatalyst/audiograbber etc) to verify the ASPI is propperly installed. I always have trouble with that myself... once the drive is detected, it should work fine.

now, that's questionable.. I have 2 different applications (one from Adaptec) to check aspi install, and most of the time they only check for files.. I've seen both of them say my ASPI is ok and it still didn't work. The only aspi installer I trust is the one that asks to reboot after the install (the others that I've tried never worked right).
