OK a viz that works fullscreen with RR

OK you need to go to null soft and down load AVIS (Avisual 2.0b)
Next make sure you have sun java runtime installed or go and download it from www.java.com

Once you have java installed, install Avis. Avis is a stand alone Visualization program NOT a win amp plug in.

Once you have it set up and working go into your Launch folder

Create a AVIS directory and create the following ini file

[GENERAL]
PATH = C:\Program Files\aVis\aVis.exe
TryEmbeddedTimeOut = 5
WindowSearchString=aVisual 2.0b

save it and start RR.

GO to music in RR and play a tune next go to the launch in RR and launch AVIS there you go practically full screen viz in RR.

Do not push the vis button in RR music that will just load the winamp viz and with both running you'll slow stuff right down.

OK this is driving me insane already.

We have this car that needs be be ready for a car show. The car puter system will be a highlight of the car features. Road Runner is going to be in the spotlight. And so far I have been unable to get a single Viz to play nicely with RR. The Avisual stand alone viz program works better than most at least being able to run as a imbedded application.

Until that is, I get this horrible strobing effect at 10 to 20 second intervals. I notice this as well some time with other Vizuals when attempts are made to run them full screen. the difference is that as an inmedded app Avis aits in a blank window where as othe winamp plugins pop the viz full screen infront of RR. In those cases every 10 to 20 seconds some of the RR buttons flash thorugh the Viz display. The flicker at the same rate as the strobing effect that I am getting with Avisual Imbedded so I am sure that the two are related.

But because in the imbedded window the RR buttons are on a bar at the top you do not see RR controls flashing in the middle of the vis screen. But the (Flicker / Strobing effect is really distracting making the Viz one step above worthless)

I do not get the flashing / strobing effect when the viz is run out side of RR it happens only when the two share screen space. And it is not a CPU loading issue. I have only 30% to 40% CPU utilization.

As it stands We will just play music and run the VIZ stand alone or Use Windows Media Player 10 to get a appealing visual on the screens. (Have 4 screens hooked up to the comp) Then exit media player and open RR to demo other features. It would have been nice to be able to run the car show demo infront of the judges using only RR as the front end.

But the show is tommorow and I just do not have anymore time to devote to debugging this Viz issue.

Which VIS plugin are you using that causes flashing.. ? RR will fully embed AVS and Milkdrop inside its screen (so no flashing should occur) .. I can't do the same when selecting "other" vis plugins because some crash when trying to do the same.. AVS runs pretty smooth (specially using "double pixeling") .. to run Full Screen you can set it to start full screen -- just make sure to change the resolution of the screen and it should work fine.. there's an issue with STARTING the vis from normal window to full screen but it is a counter effect of the TouchScreen sending the button presses at the wrong time..

I used to be able to go into full screen fine and dandy from within RR but the last update I got seemed to make it impossible. Any ideas on a fix?

OK as mentioned in the first post this is the Viz

For it to work you need to have Java Run time installed from

Then as in the first post I imbed the standalon viz into RR using the Launch folder and Ini. File as in the first post.

I go to music in RR and start playing tunes. NOTE* I do not press the eyeball in the music skin because that starts up the Winamp Plugin. Avis is not a plugin to winamp it is a standalone viz program**

I then go to Apps in RR and launch Avis.

The viz starts playing almost full screen with only the RR button Bar across the top. Within 10 to 20 seconds and lasting around 3 or 4 seconds the Viz screen starts strobing, Flikering, Flashing what ever. It does not do this when launched out side of RR.

The nice thing about it being a stand alone viz program you can still use milkdrop to run in the little boxed window. And have a seperate app to run for near full screen. All able to run under winamp.

You just can not run them at the same time because the CPU take hit.

If it can only be discovered why this strobing effect occurs and resolved this would solve my problems at least.

The other problem I describe (I thing related to the strobing of the app imbed window) happens in milkdrop or other apps when it runs full screen while in RR.

Periodically you see the RR control button flash in the middle of the VIZ screen. This seems to happen in the screen area right around the mouse cursor. Move the mouse to a location of the full screen viz and you get the RR buttons flashing through the Viz. If the mouse cursor is off screen then it seems to happen in random spots.

I can see why maybe that would be a issue with a Viz overlaying the entire RR skin but It should not happen when you have a app imbedded and launched using the APP skin. If we could get Avis3 to run without strobing while shareing the RR environment it would be a excellent work around to RR's lack of a good full screen viz problem.

Quick update!!! So as not to waste anyones time. I tracked down a later version of the AVIS software. version 3B the one on nullsoft is version 2. I just loaded the new version on to the machine and NO MORE STROBING.

There's a BUG in the AVS plugin with the option "double click goes full screen"... if the mouse is within the area of the new screen size, it goes full screen and imediatelly returns... If the double click is OUTSIDE the area of the new screen then it works fine... it also works if you right click and hit 'full screen', but you need a mouse or touchscreen that can simulate right click for this (some can do it by press and hold the same spot for a few secs)...

All righty then, here is an update. with the Avisual 3.0b viz. When you launch it from RR it seems to start with all of the options enabled. Regardless of what you have it configured in the settings panel. But as it is a external app you can shut off the annoying options like strobe and display viz name. Just use the OSK while in the app and send it the hotkey commands to turn them on or off. the letter S disables the strobe mode and the letter N enables or disables the display of the viz name.

Oh by the way the free G-force viz works in window and full mode the only problem is after it gets into full screen you have to press the ESC key on the keyboard to swap back into windowed mode. Unless you have a keyboard conected you are plumb out of luck. Figures you get a viz that you can double click into fullscreen but then you can't get out. Whats the matter with these people

IF and only IF the vis plugin changes the screen resolution, RR will detect it, hide itself and monitor if the mouse gets moved/clicked on the right edge of the screen... when that happens it automatically turns off the vis... This is meant for vis plugins that go full screen and can only return using the keyboard.

Is there a command to start a vis fullscreen and automatically enable this behavior? I want to get Milkdrop running fullscreen in 800x480 which is the native resolution of my monitor (and several others here, I assume). Currently I'm using the CFX skin and I'd rather have the vis fullscreen than in the small window. Also, when the vis is running in the window and there is a scrolling song title the vis becomes quite jerky.
