RR new feature - switch day/night skin

Seems like a lot of time and effort to do something that will never be perfect. Cloudy days and parking garages along with time of year all make for vague times to change the skin. Seems like it'd just be easier to have a button to change it manually rather than adding code that will slow things down even more.

It'll be good enough IMO.. doesn't seem like a lot of code to have it check the time every 5 minutes or whatever and if it's past time A turn it to night mode and past time B turn it to day mode.. Who needs clouds and parking garadges taken into account?

I could be missing something... (it won't be the first time) but if you open general.ini in your skin folder, it has the following entries:

...
AutoSwitch=False
DayTime=8:00:00 AM
NightTime=6:00:00 PM
...

I imagine for this to work you'd also need to select "Use Built In Gamma (settings are loaded from general.ini of each skin)" in the RR Config program.

This, to me, is overcomplicated. Sometimes I won't even have the GPS on at all. How about it just go off the computer's time (which should automatically adjust for daylight savings time anyways), and have the user be able to set it in RR.ini (or config exe) what times they want it to switch at? KISS (Keep it simple).

Yeah I agree with arebelspy. I think for alot of users it's too complicated to make it dependend on GPS, daytime and whatnot.
Is it much work to add a feature to RR that checks the time on the system it's running on and adjusts the skin according to the time?
For example I like mine to use the day skin between 10am and 4pm and the night skin between 4pm and 10 am.

Guys, you need to search...

This functionality has been added to RR and is about to be released. A BETA can be downloaded from:

Basically it's GPS Gamma, it will calculate sunset and sunrise based on your location.

Also, if you have this enabled then it will also provide a 3 state Day / Night button. This goes from Auto -> Day -> Night. So if you have a very cloudy day (or a very bright moon maybe)... you can still use the button to change the Gamma / Skin.

I've also provided an offset min minutes. So for example, if you provide an offset of 30 mins, then 30 mins prior to sunset / sunrise the Gamma will gradually change until 30 mins after sunset / sunrise... (total gradual change of 2 times the offset, so it's set to 30 then it would be over 60 mins).

People have tested this BETA (and previous iterations of the BETA) and are happy with the functionality (which is optional in RRConfig).

Also, I've added indicators so that you know if GPS GAmma is in Auto or off. This is in the next BETA to be released later today (maybe) which will be BETA 10.

Also in this BETA is a number of other things such as GPS Volume control.

We did a search, and this is the relevant thread to what we want.

Did you read what we said skippy? We saw that stuff, and were saying we didn't really want that, at all. Read my comments on this thread, tolisn's comment, and Meelobee's comment. We don't WANT it to be based on GPS, as that's overcomplicated and unnecessary. Maybe we don't have GPS hooked up, or don't want gradual change, etc. We want the KISS (keep it simple) idea.

We saw the beta, GizmoQ pointed it out earlier, and we commented. Read our comments instead of assuming we haven't seen it or haven't searched.

What roadhog found is interesting, I'm planning on testing that soon.

so just because some of you don't want it apparently everyone does not want it? I think it's clear that some people want it, otherwise we would not have spent the time coding it!

Now, obviously software that provides OPTIONS is the most likely to please everyone. IN the next release of RR you'll have the option of using RR Internal Gamma or the new RR GPS functionality (or Gamma Control etc.).

There is no forcing you to use this functionality, it's there for those that want it. Now, if you are saying that there is functionality others would like based on just time of day etc. etc. then that can also be provided via an option...

Bottom line is everyone wants things differently!

No one said no one wanted it.. I was just saying if you read what we said in this thread, specifically all of page 2, we were saying we wanted a simple solution, we had seen the complicated ones involving Gamma control, new GPS solution, etc. and we'd rather have a simple solution. Then you came along and said stuff like:
"Guys, you need to search..."
"This functionality has been added to RR and is about to be released."

..adn then named exactly what we were saying we didn't want "it will calculate sunset and sunrise based on your location."

It's a great bit of work, and I'm sure many people will appreciate it.

There are just some of us that prefer the simple solution based on a certain time. I'm hoping roadhog's finding works.

Ok, so you realise I could implement your request in probably about 5 mins? Maybe 6 mins if I have to test it...

Maybe if you say:

"Is there any chance while you are changing the code that you could add an additional option to change the Gamma / Skin based on a nightstart and daystart setting in RRConfig, seperate to GPS reading"...

then I may actually add it for you?
