Winamp volume problems

I've done a bit of a

and found similar problems, but not the same as what I'm having. M12k using onboard SPDIF into phoenix gold 5.1MT.

What I would like is to run winamp volume at 100%, and use master volume controls. I can set winamp vol to any level, but it like to always reset itself to what it was the last time I exit winamp.

Ie, run winamp (outside of RR) and set the volume to 95%. Exit winamp, start roadrunner and go to the mixer. Now winamp volume and master volume are both 95% (block ears). I can drop down the master vol no probs, and winamp stays at 95%. Also drop winamp to say 50%. Now I hibernate, and when I start up again, winamp is 95% and master is 95%.

Drop them both down to say 15%. Go to audio player and click "next song" all of a sudden winamp is back up to 95%. Gets to be a bit of a pain to adjust the volume every time I select a new song!

This happens with ZOTS and brushed metal.

Can I buy a clue from anyone?

My guess is that you got something else (other than RR) messing with your winamp volume.. there's nothing in RR that could possibly change the winamp volume without you messing with it..

Also it is important to notice that the mosts SOUND CARDs doesn't support controling the SPDIF volume by the master volume of the mixer.. digital signal can only be controlled at the source (winamp) or at the destination (amp+speakers).. I very much doubt you'll find any way of controlling the volume of the SPDIF output using any mixer..

OK, played around a bit more, and here is where its at:

In RR config, I've got master volume mapped to wave vol. What happens is that every time I select a new song, select the next song, or switch from video to music, the master (ie, wave) volume resets to whatever the winamp volume is.

So if I have winamp volume set to 90%, when I fire up RR, the wave/master volume gets set to 90% too. I can drop the main volume down, and according to the mixer, winamp is still at 90%, master is now down to 10%, and my ears aren't getting a pounding. As soon as I select a new song, the wave/master volume shoots all the way back up to 90%.

If I drop winamp vol down to 10%, and then crank up the wave/master volume, next time a new song is selected, wave/master drops back down to 10% again.

It doesn't do this when one MP3 finishes and the next starts playing automatically.

It wouldn't make sense that RR is doing this, so I'm guessing it must be winamp (v2.91), and the only plugin active is mp3_splice

It is definitely winamp... try a different output plugin and check your settings..some plugins (on some cards) lock the wave volume along with the winamp volume..

OK, more information..
Its happening on my M12K (using SPDIF) in the car, and also on my gigabyte onboard soundcard on the desktop (using line out).

In RR, start playing music and the wave vol gets reset to exactly what winamp volume is (this is evident in the RR mixer as well as the windows volume control). Using RR mixer, if I adjust winamp volume, the wave volume slides up and down along with it. But I *can* adjust the wave volume (RR or windows) without the winamp volume changing.

As per my previous post, if I select a new song, the winamp volume stays the same, and the wave volume gets reset to what the winamp vol is. The same does not happen if I'm just using winamp without RR.

I'll take a look at it... there's a possibility that mapping the master to wave is causing the issue... you can test it by changing the code of the slider to control winamp instead, and the button codes to "VOL+|-;Winamp" (check skin commands.txt for details -- not sure of the correct command).. then leave the master mapped to master.

It definately seems to be something about linking volume to wave. If I link it to master, the volume controls work as expected (But it doesn't actually adjust the SPDIF volume).

I haven't tried remapping the volume buttons - I've just been using the mixer screen to adjust levels independently - because mapping the volume buttons to winamp doesn't help with videos and D3 voice directions.

I think I've got it sorted now, thanks Guino.

I've changed:
Sliders from "MASTER" to "WINAMPVOL"
Most volume buttons to "VOL-;Winamp"
Video browser volume changed to "VOL-;Winamp||VOL-"

By the way, I had the exact same problem when I mapped the control to wave. It bugged the hell out of me for a couple weeks as it reset the volume after every song. Finally realized I had mapped to wave to see if it made any difference (with anything), and my problem was solved.
