@Toehead, to each his own, but yes I CAN and WILL argue against itunes, because in my opinion it is a hunk of crap....![]()

you can disable itunes helper and ipodservice
otherwise itunes is unmatched in this field
I vote for a foobar2000 integration into RR.
Check it out if you have not done so. It does what it is supposed to do (playing ALL kind of audio - mp3, oggis, mpc etc.), has replaygain and allows to play, i.e. techno albums without gaps between the tracks.
BTW it is only 800kb in size. Not that I want to save diskspace but this proofs that it is an optimized, fast and stable player without a lot of garbage feature we don't need in our carpc.
I also vote for foobar:
* Audio formats supported: MP1, MP2, MP3, MP4, MPC, AAC, Ogg Vorbis, FLAC / Ogg FLAC, WavPack, WAV, AIFF, AU, SND, CDDA.
* Full unicode support.
* Advanced tagging capabilities.
* Support for transcoding all supported audio formats using the Converter component (requires external commandline encoder executables for different output formats).
* ReplayGain support - both playback and calculation.
* Customizable keyboard shortcuts.
* Open component architecture allowing third-party developers to extend functionality of the player.
I have an epia 10k with 512 ram, more than a few albums on my playlist and the comp grinds to a halt with winamp. foobar can run my entire collection (120 gigs of mp3s) without a problem.

No way in Hell would I use WMP. It sucks so much that I remove it from Windows before even installing. There's nothing good about it. I can't believe people are suggesting itunes for carpc use either. You've gotta be kidding.
Every good plugin is available for Winamp 2.95. There's a HUGE following from developers. Check sourceforge. Even the Winamp website has a lot available for an "antiquated" version. Using Winamp I play FLAC, AAC, OGG, APE, AC3, DTS, M4A and much more. Low resource, good library, good EQ, and no crashes with 2.95. Why are you running 5.x? My current playlist has 900 songs and I don't have a problem, M10k with 256mb ram.Originally Posted by accentsound

NOOO! I love winamp. Please no changes there.
You only have to use the V2.x Versions then there are no problems anymore!!
Thousends of plugins, vis,... available. No crashes here.

but it does not support MPC and most important - it is just unacceptable to listen to i.e. pink floyd the wall with gaps (even if it is only 1 ms) between the tracks. fooplayer and mpc supports gapless replay.
question: i don't have problems with 2.95 either regarding stability. but everytime i shutdown windows, winamp hangs.... why that?
Can you suggest a good plugin to play videos I'm having a problem with winamp 2.95 stuttering when playing videos .

That can be easily fixed. Adjust the buffer, prebuffer and buffer-ahead in your output plugin. I bet your buffer-ahead is on zero. Mine is set to 2000ms. That, along with enabling "remove silence at beginning/end of tracks" gets rid of gaps.Originally Posted by upspace
