    My Online Indicator

Have spend about an hour trying to figure out why my online indicator is not working.

Here is the code I borrowed from chucks skin:

    I02,371,363,59,34,"ONLINE"
    IMG,371,363,58,34,"online.jpg",ON

I am trying to overlay my online.jpg file, which is the WEB text in red, on top of the exsiting WEB button.

So when online, the WEB button will turn red.

I even tried moving the the indicator and img to some empty space on the skin, and still not working.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks.

I know it will not work over a button I have tried

Is the jpg in your skin directory?

And make sure no other objects are in it like labels, img and so on

It should work over a button if you make it blink, like any indicator.

I originally tried to copy the same method as the mute indicator button. I created a new layer with the text "WEB" and made it red. I saved my ON and DOWN screens with the red WEB text, and my OFF screen without it.

I was also able to get it to flash by using "online:b", or to stay solid red by using just "online".

But it did not function as I expected. When RR is first launched the WEB would be red (or flash if setup that way). It did not seem to matter if I was online or not. I tested this on my laptop by disconnecting the wireless card and reconnecting it again.

If I moved my mouse over the WEB button, it would stay red, but then go to white when the mouse is moved off the button. This is also the case if I leave the main screen, and then come back into again. The red WEB is not displayed anymore.

I couldn't really make sense of how it was working, but it always did the same thing whether or not I had internet access.

I will try it on my desktop PC and see if it works any different. I have noticed some funny things like my WEATHER screen does not work on my laptop, but perfect on my desktop. Something to do with the wireless network I am on. Maybe the online indicator has the same issues.

Indicators were never meant to be INSIDE buttons, only flashing indicators work right, and even those will not work exactly as desired.

About the online indicator, if you searched enough you'd find:

I did something a little more subtle. I edited my menu jpegs (ZOTS) so the "WWW" of the internet button was red on the off menu, and green on the on menu. I then put the online indicator box over it. Now whenever I have a connection that text is green and if not its red.

Would you please do me the favour and post you menu.skin and menu image files here as an attachment? I really could use them

    Thanks in advance

My bad. I saw the thread in my search but did not go through all the pages until now.

    Thanks.

Yes my jpg is in the directory and I have now moved my indicator box, and img box onto an empty space. But still no indicator.

This is very strange because I open up your skin, and the online indicator works. And when I disconnect my network, the indicator eventually goes off, and then back on again when I re-connect.

I also made my IMG box the exact same size as my jpg image. But not sure if this is necessary or not.

I have it working great by adding my image to my menu_ON background, and adding the indicator box around that area. But I can not get it to load an image. I guess it works the same both ways. Just easier to move an image box around in the skin editor than re-doing the background image.

Anything special you're doing to get this indicator to work with loading an image? I must be missing something.

Just remember as with all things MP3Car, this is a work in progress. I'm currently in the process of embedding Curiosity's Compass onto my Nav button, so ignore the stuff along the nav button for now. The skin is setup to display a lot of nav info in the main window, too. If you're not running MM this would also be useless to you. Have fun.
