Thread: Set a pause with Sendkey command?

Oh, I didn't mean pause as in pause the music, I meant pause is in a delay before the next command.

Something like "SENDKEY;%VT||SLEEP[2000]||SENDKEY;%VB"

Reason being is, I'm usting MS Streets and Trips for my navigation software. I'd like to be able to send a command to turn GPS on, wait for it to connect, and then send another command to center the map around my current position (then another to rotate map)

I'd say that when it gets to be like that, you're probably better off making an AUTOIT script to be executed by your button.. I believe AUTOIT would provide you with a lot more functions to control the application. FYI, no matter what, S&T will always suck -- That's why there's Mappoint. It's all a matter of how much you're willing to spend on your system.

Yes and no... I have Mappoint 2004, Streets and trips 2005, and Streets and trips 2006, and I have to say I like Mappoint the least. Streets and trips 2006 though is VERY cool. I'm going to get Mappoint 2006 when it comes out and if it's as good as Streets and trips 2006, then it would be great.

My biggest problem with Mappoint is that it's not easy to have it tell you how to get somewhere from your current position. Reason being is, I have to right click on the map (um, try doing that on a touch screen) near where I am, select add to route, then go into route planner and add the point you want to go. Streets and trips allows you to just type in where you want to go and hit go. And, if you want to have it reroute you, you just hit the go button again.

The thing I don't like about Streets and trips, is there is no way to set it up so that it automatically turns GPS on when you start the application

Sorry but that's bull... Using Mappoint in RR, you don'e ever have to click on the map or know where you are, you just enter the destination to the route and hit calculate and the route is done, or just search nearby places, select it and hit calculate to go there -- again without even LOOKING at the map... and you even get turn-by-turn VOICE directions.. S&T has crappy and small controls... sure

Sorry, I didn't mean you have to click on the map to know where you are, I'm talking about setting a route from your current position. Say, if I'm somewhere and I want to get home. I first have to set my current position by right clicking on the map near where I am, and then go into the Route planner to select my home address.

I'm not sure if this is what you're sayign though..... I've tried simply entering where I want to go in route planner and hitting calculate (and/or optimize) and it does not give me a route from my current position. I just notes the point on the map and that's it. Maybe I have a setting messed up or something. If I could get it to function that way though, I'd like it a lot better... but I think I still favor the new Streets and Trips (I'm going to post a review after my first road trip yesterday in a few minutes)

One thing I did notice with Mappoint however is, if you don't have any preset favorite addresses, and you bring up the blank favorites window and click select, it will put your current GPS position in the Route List (lat/lon). Not sure if this is a bug, but I kind of like to have preset addresses in my favorites list, and if you do, this trick doesn't work.

I have to disagree with you when it comes to Streets and Trips 2006. They really built this for in car use. I'd imagine there are some people on this board that work on that application for MS or at least forwarded on their requests to the team, because it is VERY driving oreinted now. I just did a ~400 mile road trip yesterday to Cape Flattery (Neah Bay, WA) and while I have a few complaints, it worked very well. Leaps and bounds better than S&T 2005.



However, Guino did give me some tips to use that AUTOIT program to do what I want, I think my problem will be solved. All I need now is to learn how to write in VB script. I've wanted to pick that up for a while (I'm a simple tester, not developer, or devloper in test,) but I've never had a good reason to do so... and now I do.

There has been a report of the single-route calculation not working when NOT showing the GPS position ... I can tell you right off that this feature only works with a GPS LOCK (duh)... but that's what I ALWAYS use so I know it works. In regards to the favs, the way to add the GPS position to the route is by pressing the Nearby button on the add location screen, entering a radius like 1 (one) and then selecting the GPS position from the list of locations.. The reason why it's there is because this is only usefull when you want to add multiple points to your route list (otherwise you'll most likely use single-point route..) ... in any case, this is probably why you like S&T, that is, you haven't gotten mappoint to work the way it should work.
