My machine is a 1.6 Centrino, 1GB DDR2 which should be more than sufficient to handle this. It is a Mini ITX board with Intel 915 chipset.

I do have clipping set to false and have tried every other suggested fix in this thread and in the FAQ - no luck. Just to test it, I copied over the RoadRunner folder to my desktop PC (P4 2.6, 1GB RAM) and it ran flawlessly. There were no delays whatsoever.

Curious that. I tried out FrodoPlayer and it was very responsive (no delays). I've continued tweaking RR in hopes that a speed solution had been discovered.

I second liquid smokes request. It would be nice to choose which screens were preloaded.

If it helps at all, I found an old version (6-21-2005) of RR in some thread here and tried it out with the skin I'm trying to use. Everything is instantaneous. It loads incredibly fast, screens switch with zero delay... pretty amazing.

I'll try to find other releases and see where the problem started occurring.

I doubt it is video drivers if an older version of RR works beautifully. Since I don't need all the new features, I think I'll just look for the "newest" old version that runs well.

If you find that version, let me know so I can "try" to pinpoint what differences could have caused the performance changes.

    Guino,

I've setup every release from 6-21-2005 to current. It looks like the problem started occurring with the 8-8-2005 release. The file size went up 400KB in that release, so there must have been substantial changes. I'm looking for the changelog now.

    Here was the changelog:

    ----------------------------------

-Added Commands to Control Winamp Volumes and Mixer Balance/Bass/Treble
-Added No Zoom Option for BuiltIn Video Player
-Added Loadable Images Support for Skins
-Added Support for "status" indicator images (Play/Pause/Stop)
    -Added "Online" (Connectivity) indicator support
-Added Support to Display DAY/NIGHT skin status (mainly for SDK purposes)
    -Added Reload Weather command
-Improved MM Direction support to allow direction image on multiple screens
-Improved Flash Objects Speed and integration
-Improved Serial Port over USB support (to wait for USB devices after hibernation)
-Fixed issue with Built in Video Time Display
-Fixed issue with "NEXT" and "PREV" not working with SIRIUS without a playlist

Notes: This version's main change is in regards to handling USB devices after hibernation (Serial Ports, SIRIUS and XMPCR). USB and Hibernation can be a nightmare for some devices (while others work just fine), this version has support to wait for the setup USB devices to be available for connection after hibernation and it is so robbust that you can resume with the USB device unplugged, and RR will detect the re-insertion of the device and start it up (no matter how long it takes).
-NoZoom is for those with 4:3 screens that wish to use the built-in player with the aspect ratio of the video files (zoom options will be disabled). Add nozoom=true to RR.INI to enable this.
-The "ONLINE" status does NOT guarantee internet connectivity, but instead it provides status of WAN/LAN/Dial-up connection to a network (that perhaps may allow internet access).
-To improve Flash Performance, I had to remove the Flash Clipping support which means that you can't cut areas off flash objects out. In the other hand, as long as the flash object is transparent, you should be able to click through it and furthermore any button/slider/indicator drawings should work through the flash objects on the screen (as long as they're transparent).

sounds like it's the flash support that's making things slower for you.. cause nothing else on that release could impact the performance...

Does flash work allright for you ? what's the CPU load of RR idle on the main menu with a rotating logo for instance ? if it's more than say 3-5% then you probably need to either upgrade your flash or install the propper video card/motherboard drivers. On Via Motherboards for instance, not installing the 4-in-1 drivers could mean the difference between 15% to 1% on a simple spinning logo.. when it comes to graphics, it could make things a lot worse.
