    RoadRunner... Would It Ever

    Support Speed camera alerts natively?

I know there are other things that offer this, but i would like road runner to do it for a few reasons...

First of all so you can have speed camera alerts all the time, without having your navigation software open.

Second of all because support with roadrunner with iguidance embedded seems to be progressing, i would love to run iguidance instead of mapmonkey, but iguidance doesnt support speed cameras.

It would just be great if roadrunner could do gps support like this on its own, would it be very difficult?

I actually helped CDR with the bit of code that processes the speed camera files.. it shouldn't be too hard to implement support for them, specially if CDR is willing to share his code from FD for that (which knowing him, I don't think he'd mind helping out... )

To me the main benefit of having RR handle speedcams on its own would be the abiulity to have a speedcam independent of a map...

    Things that come to mind:

    - option of using xport/mappoint gps as well as FD sdk to send lat/lon to RR.
    - indepent of maps (I guess this is automatic)
    - skin to set speed, num OSK support for "custom speed"
    - skin to manage/delete/rename skins
    - option of adding speed+tag (speed=xxKMh tag=mobile/fixed)
    - option for detecting direction (going/coming/bi-direction and editing it easily when warned for inputing changes) - with this we can tag if a camera is one way or 2-way, and change this if required.
    - skin popping up to warn us in all screens, with camera speed and distance (autorefreshing) to the camera, as well as as maybe a small "edit" button (to change speed/direction/mobile/fixed, etc)
    - popping up skin should also have a Mute/Hide button.

Just my ideas in case someone decides to integrate this into RR... I was actually thinking about this very option this weekend when I was in some unmapped areas and wanted to store a few cams... (I got about 5 tickets one time during a weekend in that same area.... this time I kept under the limit... )

This would be really great, however instead of a full blown warning system i would love to see a more simplistic approach like a warning box that flashes red and stays on all skinned pages just in case your in another screen and also with an option to turn off or on a warning chirp to alert you of a camera. Driving at night you would really notice a flashing red light/icon on a RR skin but in the day you could turn on the audible warning if wanted due to sun glare on screen or whatever.
I know its nice to have warning beeps and all sorts but at the same time i don't want to be interupted by an annoying sound each time im out listening to my music while driving. Thats why i say a warning light that can flash somewhere in all the different skin screens is the best idea as its not intrusive but there as a gentle warning which is real handy.

I dont think this should be done "in a simplistic way" as the previous user suggests.... I would really say: either someone do it right, or not at all... not to diss anyone, but still, if we are going to have a nice feature, lets have it implemented fully if possible

If you don't want to be interupted by an annoying beep stay within the speed limit, watch your speedo and you all set.
I don't know about you guy's, but when I am driving.... I am driving.
