reddeath, the hardwae is very trivial... like you say you can use a splitter (pretty lame imho), or you can do a second card, with extended desktop (which is exactly what a 1600x800 skin idea is)...

Your solution although an intermediate still wont allow video on all screens will it?

So if your client had a limo with a plasma in the rear and a screen in the guest area, how would you have video on only one, or on both (software switchable of course, no hardware change such as a Video switch)...

Whats Centra like with dual screens? check post #3. Video playing full screen on rear, and thumbnail in front!

centrafuse has started it, now we must beat it! Dual-displaying of GPS maps somehow... I wonder if one could potentially load 2 Destinator windows, with the same map, same gps data, etc (or one window "fed" from another), but it prolly wont work... I know destinator sdk doesnt load 2 apps at once...

it still is only a carpc...... that suggestions makes absolutely no practical sense imho, so I will regard it as a joke...

The suggested split-zone display support is actually extremely useful in the car.... so it isnt stupid like a Xeon server in the car, or a 5000w inverter powering 10 networked PCs....

I mean maybe you could get a decently sized cluster with 2 nano boards, but just so much waste, 2 hds, 2 memory, etc just to drive a backseat display???

World705, I also want to hear if guino has any ideas, but I'm afraid he will come down to the limitations I have commented...

Video: apparently you can clone the video to output the same stream in 2 areas of the screen at different sizes - remains to be seen.

GPS: unless you clone an area of the screen, and have the main display always >= the alternate display size, it wont work (the rear wouldnt be able to have full gps, and thumbnail gps in the front)... it is prolly also very inefficient to redraw what is on one screen on the back one...

you can run two instances of iGuidance both connected to the same gps device. You can even force both of them to have different window names so embeding them is easier. Or run 2 different gps apps connected to same gps device. Maybe one soft has way better POI but the routing is not good, so use both.
you can run multiple instances of winamp, but im not sure how RR would deal with 2 windows with the same windowname. But there are ways around this too. Use 2 seperate video players.
In essence all RR needs to do is allow more than one app to be shown on one screen. Something guino said would happen in the future.

using splitters IMO are only good if you want to (and only want to) display the same video on multiple monitors, other than that its a waste.

    Hey LS...

Unfortunately iguidance isnt available in my area...

I dont want 2 RRs.... I want all control through my touchscreen in the front (at least for now), and only visualization in the back... at one point I can add a remote for controlling from the back, but for right now I'm just waiting for software support.

I know you can configure 2 winamps on the same HD different directories I think) and each one output on one soundcard....

but I still think something like the fmod.dll would be more suited if it supports multiple instance (i think it does - for different soundcards).... I see ppl with problems running 1 winamp, imagine 2!

The solution will rely and start with some sort of hardware configuration. I was not able to find a smart splitter that had some sort of software control in it, however KVM swithes have the ability to run with hotkeys if plugged into the keyboard port.

If you have multiple monitors, obviously they have to connect to a single PC somehow. The examples I gave were the only known ways to do this.

Showing the exact same thing on all monitors is the easiest thing to do if you use this simple splitter.

The only way Windows XP is capable of showing different things on different screens is through multiple video cards. No software can make Windows do what it is Not capable of displaying.

The Limo thing will require a 2nd video card in the machine, so Windows can use the Extended desktop, and place the video or visualization or gps screen wherever you tell it to be, however like everyone has mentioned in this configuration it would be very difficult to allow the same application to run multiple times, so this takes us back to the simple splitter to show the same thing on multiple screens.

The author of Centrifuse said that he plans on adding this feature in the future, but according to his post it sounds like it will rely on a 2nd video card.

It would take major code changes to RR.
