From my understanding it is already in Centrafuse, it does require a multi-head output '(be it through tv-out or additional VGA), and it does require splitting the desktop into the 2 outputs, as spearate "screens"...

This is all well and dandy, but requires some changes to the RR code... as skippy mentions... The changes might be subtle or substantial depending on how far with these options we would like to go.... it is currently able to do say GPS in the back and mp3 list in the front.... Some changes sch as what is being worked on by a user should allow Video and GPS simultaneously (this wuold work on 1 montior, or 2)...

basically, by extending the desktop, you can spearate anything that you see on one skin into 2 skins, but not necessarily all duplicated controls will work (labels should work on both screens - you can have multiple labels displaying the same thing on one skin, apps embedded wont work on both displays- the app cant be embedded 2 times on the same .skin file) and so forth...

I agree that you must need 2 outputs in order to connect 2 video monitors, this is obvious, be it a splitter or a second card... and for dual-zone video you will need to have a second output (card/tvout) that can act as an extension to your desktop.... and you will most definitely need a skin that covers BOTH desktops, and then you can merely move items to one half or the other of the skin

Yes I 99% agree with RoyN. It will become very difficult when you start wanting multiple of the same windows e.g. two GPS, two Video etc.

I thought the biggest roadblock was two touch screens and the inability to seperate the usb input info.

You could use my zoom tool after it comes out. It will click on the area that it magnifies on the first screen

Nope, afaik for the last 1.5yrs roughly the touchscreen drivers have been able to assign 2 usb touckits to 2 different virtual screens.... I havent tried it so I know of none of its functionality or requirements

    Not a problem these days.

I think both Cloudy and Confused have two screens running both with touchscreens.

It would be nice for Road Runner to support Dual Monitor Support using DualHeaded Graphic Cards.. or Multiple Graphics Cards.

The benifits would be that the 1st monitor can be the main control panel eg. Menu.

There is no point in having more than one touchscreen monitor. Rest may as well be normal monitors (eg. Sun Visor or HeadRest)

A movie can be then played in the 2nd Display whilst running the sound which GPS is still on the 1st Monitor (Touchscreen) for Driver.

There are down falls eg. Depending on how it is made thats if it is. the skins may have to be redesigned or.. can be ability to choose a seperate skin for the secondary monitor. eg. Road Runner Sign!

    @World705:

It should be really upto the user if he/she wants to use a secondary touchscreen... It can be useful for kids in the back/passengers to be able to choose/play/pause movies...

Also, if the integration is made, with dual-wideness screens, (1600x480 for example), then they just need to be regular .skin files, no change on road runner to support clicks from the additional screens.

Then just simply connect all of your monitors to your computer and every monitor will display the same thing.

I am currently working on this on my next version of Mobile Impact on the DVD player module, where upon clicking a button, it moves the playing movie to the 2nd screen, then if you hit the button again, it will return to the first screen. This is for an application like a limousine or minivan or something where you can set the movie to play on the back screen for your guests or kids.

So really if you think about it, this covers pretty much every aspect of doing multiple screens, where there really is very little coding required.

I just bought this from Tiger, it pretty much should cover the hardware part for most folks that may not have space for a PCI or whatever extra card, as far as FrontEnd the main need would be to have the possibility of having Dad in the front use the GPS while the rest enjoy whatever web, music, dvd, they want.
There are other commercial purposes, but for most folks this is the extent of it.
I hope that MobileImpact or RR can make this happen as it would give a new dimension to CarPC
The main thing is that the driver really only needs GPS, as far as too many distractions and stuff. The passengers don't really need to have GPS unless they're giving directions (backseat drivers), so this is mostly a win-win situation.
The problem would come up in "focus" when the driver is inputing info in the GPS there can't be input in the second display at the same time. But communication would probably sove that.
I really don't see where an application would nn to be duplicated, the nice thing would be to have a hotkey that would change the skin and the resolution at the same time! That would be HOT!!

wow at 60 bucks its pretty unbeatable!!!

Web in the backseat is also an interesting concept! wireless keyboard for the kids, w/ gyration mouse or trackball... (or one of those wireless keyboards w/ touchpad in one)

Just need to be careful with focus of the keys and such...

Let us know how it behaves, lag, hibernation, etc,etc... I'm really curious!

I also wonder how RR will behave if it has a 1600x480 skin, and say this device takes a few seconds coming out of hibernation to "enable" the additional desktop
