    RR doesn't start Phoco on initial load..

    Hi all, first post but i've been reading this forum for quite a while.
    Seems that all wisdom needed for my carpc is found here

    I've got this problem and have been searching and googling for solutions without succes.
    (and i guess somebody is gonna respond 'but you didn't search hard enough nOOb look here....'- )
    but anyway here goes

    i found similar problems but no real solutions

    I want to use Phoco intergrated in RR
    I got Phoco 1.5 registered and just downloaded the latest RR and LiquidSmoke skin.
    Set up RR to the correct Phoco path and clicked the remote button.

    Phoco is working fine standalone

    Now when i start RR it says starting Phoco in the splash and nothing happens on the BT-icon or my phone or whatever.
    When RR is loaded at the starting menu the PC is still busy and after a while i can see the phoco icon appear in the taskbar and also the BT-icon turning green(=active)
    I can see a BT connection made on the phone

    Only when i click the phone-menu in RR it doesn't show my battery status etc and i can't dial receive(in fact i can but nothing happens on my phone)
    Now when i close down RR i get an error message from Phoco that it failed to load resources and i have to check my setup

    Now when i've started AND CLOSED DOWN Phoco BEFORE starting RR,then RR starts up and does show batterystatus etc and is functional(after loading)

    Of course i can start Phoco and LEAVE IT OPEN and then start RR and it will be functional no problem but then RR doesn't shut down Phoco on 'shut down' and gives an error message when the PC tries to shut down(someting about the BT stack server-it takes Windows too long to kill it)

    Now i'm guessing this, dunno if its relevant;
    I've read somewhere that RR tries to start Phoco and if it doesn't succeed in 10 sec then gives up
    Phoco takes a longer time on initial load because of the .NET-stuff that needs to be loaded
    Is it then possible that it just take too much time to load Phoco initially with RR on my humble 800mhz pc and if so is there a workaround

    And if my guessing is totally wrong, is there another solution to the above problem?

    Thanks

    Having gone thru the Phoco/RR setup recently, then I may be able to help.
    questions:
    1.. What type of phone?
    2.. What do you have in the Phoco configuration setup (phonectl.config.xml)?
    3.. When you start RR and allow it to spool Phoco check your Phonectlog.txt in the phonecontrol directory. Delete this file first, then run RR allowing it to call phoco and check the newly created file for errors.
    4.. Make sure you have the -remotenodesign option checked and no entry in the ring tone file of RR config and save the RR when you exit.
    I am using a spawn of the BMV2 skin, the call_in, call_out, phoco skin, etc. These have to be checked and verified very closely. The headphone or bluetooth option for RR/Phoco isn't fully implemented yet but hopefully it soon will be. The battery option, charging. signal strength do work and are phoco dependent on how it's config file is setup in the communications setting.

    check my earlier posts this month on a few areas to check for.

    hi,

    have u tried to first start phoco standalone, close it and then open it with RR. phoco should come up fater on the 2nd startup.

    phoco is waiting 5 sec to start the exe (till gets process handle) then tries 5 sec to connect to phoco. if rr could not connect it closes phoco again and starts from the beginning. rr tries this 5 times.

    how long does it tke till phoco is started on your machine??(standalone and with rr).i tested the timing with my epia 1GHz (should be th same perform like a 700 or 800 mhz p3) and 256mb ram and it worked fine.

    i havent seen this feature yet. On my laptop, if i turn my bluetooth device off, start RR, it starts Phoco and RR continues to load. Phoco never shutsdown or restarts. I also get a lot of errors about setup failure etc. Works fine stand alone. Now if i enable my bluetooth device everything is ok about half the time. I still get errors when RR exits from phoco.

    @LS:
    don't confound connecting phoco to the phone and connect rr to phoco.
    i rr uses a tcp connection to "control" phoco. so phoco only will be restarted if rr coul not connect to phoco via tcp. i don't have any chances to verify if bluetoothconnections are enabled or not on your pc.
    could you give me a more detailed explanation of the errors you get. i could take a look at the code and wipe out some bugs (if there any )

    Also you get an error from phoco if phoco could not connect to a phone on startup. but this should happen also when launching phoco standalone...

    1.. What type of phone?
    Nokia Ngage QD(SymbianOS)
    2.. What do you have in the Phoco configuration setup (phonectl.config.xml)?
    Standard settings:
    <Communication id="Symbian OS">
    <Port>4</Port>
    <Setting>38400,N,8,1</Setting>
    <Vendor>Symbian</Vendor>
    <PhoneBookLocation id="1" timeout="90" name="Tel" static="True" startup="True" shortcut="True">SYMBIAN</PhoneBookLocation>
    <UseCharset>8859-1</UseCharset>
    <UseClip>True</UseClip>
    <UseCPAS>True</UseCPAS>
    <UseCLCC>False</UseCLCC>
    <UseCNMI mode="2,1">False</UseCNMI>
    <UseBTManager>False</UseBTManager>
    </Communication>

    3.. When you start RR and allow it to spool Phoco check your Phonectlog.txt in the phonecontrol directory. Delete this file first, then run RR allowing it to call phoco and check the newly created file for errors.
    Will do that..but its kinda late for it now,i will look tomorrow

    4.. Make sure you have the -remotenodesign option checked and no entry in the ring tone file of RR config and save the RR when you exit.
    Option is checked on but why no ringtone? its plain windows ringin.wav and it seems to be working fine when i do get RR and Phoco started

    @hematec
    I just noticed this:
    RR is now in my windows startup folder, after booting winxp it starts RR and RR starts Phoco.
    Now if i leave my PC alone for at least 2 minutes i think(hard to time,if i look too soon i have to close RR and try again) then phoco connects my phone and shows active in RR.
    If i do anything before phoco is 'finished' loading/connecting than it just 'hangs' as in nothing happens and it doesn't come active in RR
    The phoco icon is in the taskbar and the BT icon goes green but nothing even after disconnecting the phone and letting it reconnect.

    The overall loading time i think is longer than the standalone Phoco and RR loading time together.

    Thinking more it's just my system: it's no P3 its a VIA processor and i just realized i have 'only'128mb
    I will put in some more tomorrow and see the difference

    BTW everybody thanks for the quickie replies

    cool thanks, that clears up the connecting thing a bit.
    Ill explain in more detail the error messages im getting in a about an hour, (have to run to the atm). Also to correct something i said earlier, i get the error messages even when my bluetooth is on and Phoco successfully connects to the phone, i can see the bat meter and signal. Plus some other odd things i just noticed.

    Hmm,dunno if we talking the same error but i still have it when closing RR(and so also Phoco)
    It's a message from phoco saying 'could not load resources - check your setup'- even if RR and phoco where working ok

    Okay, to clear up some of my earlier post.

    I had a problem with any wav file working in RR/phoco, thus the leaving the field blank is the option for me.
    After reading your posts again, your setup is close enough in phoco and should work and this is a timing, memory issue.
    The low resources error on exit has happened to me in the past. What I found out in my setup was,
    1.. if your using WinAmp, then any visualization setting/option inside winamp created a heavy cpu load 80-90%. Setup Winamp lean and mean.
    2.. If you have external programs that are loaded inside RR, eg. streetatlas, Obd2, etc. and exit RR without closing them first they still are an active process, check the taskmanager. In the skin file I noticed that BVM2 skins had two buttons/tags for an external loading program skin one for return to main menu and the exit tag/button for that active skin program. If I shutdown RR without exiting from these screens first, then my resources would be low and sometime the error would occur.
    I mentioned the above only for reference as when you build RR to do more embedded programs/functions you may or may not have these issues.

    Now at the Phoco site there is a remotecontrol pdf file that explains a lot more about controlling phoco. Hematec is correct in all of his post to you and a lot more savvy, then I. The TCP/IP call from port 17xx ( I think that's the default) and this must be established first, then bluetooth with the Btstacker.

    Now on my setup, XP sp3, 933 PIII with 256meg ram, using a USB wireless network module (D-Link) and an USB bluetooth transmitter module (X-brand) I can have timing issues or slow to respond from the first XP startup and XP trying to control or initiating these devices from either the first startup or from an inactivate status. XP on wireless devices will shutdown these processes to conserve energy think of it as a mobile/laptop PC mindset. I had to make my overhead of XP/OS lean to reduce overhead. You can set these devices in the hardware option of device manager to not allow them to shutdown on inactivity or extend the timeout. Also when XP loads the wireless TCP/IP there can be delays of up to 1 minute on initial startup depending on your config for host assignment of your IP address and again this will somewhat be effected from a hibernation, etc.

    Also, there can be two versions of phoco 1.5 that are out there depending on when you downloaded it. One had the setup problem and configured itself everytime, the later one takes this issue away. This caused some problems for me as I fell into the first release and had to do a patch which seemed to resolve some other issues I was having.

    Im getting the same error message,
    Failed to load resources from resource file
    Please check your Setup

    Now, i dont think any of this has anything to do with how many external apps you have loaded in RR, or how beefy your winamp install is. Im not running low on resources, this is happening on a laptop with 2GB of Ram, so i seriously doubt its a resource problem. It dosent happen all the time either, and sometimes the error is different (rarely) where i get a very long list of error messages.

    as far as your setup goes with windows turning off devices to preserve energy, this is only good if your using a laptop and should most likely be turned off for a a desktop computer. But if you only have 256MB of Ram, then maybe its good for you to have a super lean install, it would be better for you in the long run to just buy some more Ram, 256 is way too low for any type of modern computer IMO, the OS will eat half of that or more itself. Give yourself some room to breath.
