Occasional Song List Hickup with XM

I have mentioned this in another thread somewhere a while back but since it is getting rather annoying to me I though I would create it's thread.

When I first start my pc it boots into RR and the MP3's start playing, other than the volume control issue I'm trying to work out currently this is working just fine.

    SCENE ONE:
If within seconds of the RR startup I select XM RADIO all the stations are jumbled up with characters, after a few seconds all the actual song names start to update EXCEPT for the station I am currently on. This station does not update with the song and if I select another station that has a song title the station I just left will now have the song title visible and the new station will not update any longer as long as it is the station being listened to.

    SCENE TWO:
If I wait minutes to enter into XM RADIO all the stations come up quickly and the song names all change including the station I'm listening to.

Problem is what is causing this. For the most part (yes sometimes not) if I wait an extended amount of time to go into XM RADIO things seem to work ok otherwise it gets all messed up and it does not update correctly with the song titles. Not sure if there is someplace in the code where it is getting hung up and does not refresh the song for the station currently being listened to. I've tried all the latest updates for the past few months and they all do the same for me.

I doubt it is the XM DIRECT receiver or the cable doing this as I tried hooking the receiver up to a friends headunit and it worked flawlessly. The cable would either pass or fail and not be picky on how long I wait to enter into XM RADIO from my front end. The only thing I have not done yet is try another front end. I would hate to do this as I have most everything setup the way I want with RR.

Any ideas, it's frustrating. Don't think it's coding on the skin is it. I've compared to other skins and tried other skins and it does the same.

    Chuck,

This comes back to the fact that the XM device takes a while to initialize.

I'll take a look to see if there is anything I can do.

You know what I've seen as strange, although maybe not too strange, I've had a couple blue screens and when I hit the reset button the first thing that happens on Windows boot up is that XM is playing. The last station being listened to on XM is playing eveing while Windows is doing the scan disk. Seems to initialize pretty quick I think.

    Thanks for taking a look.

Yes, that is normal. When you close an 'XM' app it should stop the XM device 'MUTE' it (not the mixer device, the actual XM deivce itself with a command over the COM port).

If you restart your PC, the XM device is not powered down (USB power is kept up) and your XM device has not been shutdown. This is perfectly normal, not a bug... except for the fact that you got a BSOD.

AH, that does make sense to me. The BSOD I have not been able to figure it out. It has only happened twice to me and no explaination other than some IRQ problem. No device mentioned, both times I was using XM but that's what I do most of the time anyhow.

OK a little more info on the refreshing of the channel currently playing. Of course you know that the song does update on it's own from time to time but when it does not update if I select the current channel in the list by pressing on it with my finger the song will update.

Currently playing channel 81 artist changes from xxx to yyy but the song playing still shows xxx as it does not update in the list. I press on channel 81 with my finger and now artist yyy is showing up.

Maybe a little more info to help figure out what the problem is.

    Thx,
    Chuck
