If you're using the correct software (Media Player Classic = MPC = mplayerc.exe), then once the DVD starts playing and the controls disappear, you have to click on the "CONTROLS" text on the upper left corner to re-display the controls.
I'm using WMP Classic (downloaded from web) for DVD playback. once it goes fullscreen I can't get the controls back!
PLZ HELP!!!

I'll give that a try...thanks!
what if one does not have a touchscreen?
It would be nice if controls would appear automatically on any keypress same way they do during video playback.
That's a good point, but then I have no way to allow a user to select/touch the DVD menus using the keyboard -- MPC doesn't seem to have the same keyboard handling as WinDVD/PowerDVD to navigate through the DVD menus. In which case I'd suggest using WinDVD or PowerDVD.

That brings up another question I have...kinda off topic I guess, but is there any keypress compatiblity to any of this? I have a radioXtreme, and it came with a remote I'd like to use.
