Thread: Using Road Runner as a shell in XP

Hi all,

Thought I would share with you all, how I have been able to run RoadRunner as a shell.
N.B. messing with your shell can screw up your computer

Step 1
Create a new file using notepad and put in it any programs you would like to run at start up, again in my case this is;
start "BtTray" "C:\Program Files\WIDCOMM\Bluetooth Software\BTTray.exe"

start "PowerStrip" "C:\Program Files\PowerStrip\pstrip.exe"

start "RoadRunner" "C:\Program Files\Road Runner\rr.exe"

start "Mouse" "C:\Program Files\3DMouse\3DMOUSE.EXE"

start "DirSync" "C:\Program Files\DirSync\DirSync.exe" /Background

start "ATI" "C:\Program Files\ATI Technologies\ATI Control Panel\atiptaxx.exe"

start "Keyboard" "C:\Program Files\MediaKey\MEDIAKEY.EXE"

start "PowerDVD" "C:\Program Files\CyberLink\PowerDVD\PDVDServ.exe"

start "Konfabulator" "C:\Program Files\Pixoria\Konfabulator\Konfabulator.exe"

save this file as start.bat and remember where you saved it (I put it in c:\WINDOWS)

Step 2
To get this work open task manager>File>NewTask
then type regedit and hit enter, or start>run then regedit and hit enter. Once regedit is open go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE>SOFTWARE>Microsoft>Windows NT>CurrentVersion>Winlogon then look for the key shell in the right hand pane. Double click on shell and change the value data: path to match where start.bat is, in my case this would be "C:\WINDOWS\start.bat" N.B. make sure you have the quotations around the path or it won't work!
