Any ipod users w/ RR please read

I posted another thread in the Operating System forum, but I figured other people might have the same problem (environment is more similar)...

    Hey guys - 'd but didn't find anything ->

    Carpc specs:
    Dell Inspiron 8200 w/ 1.7GHz P4
    512 MB RAM
    20g HD
    SB Audigy 2 PCMCIA sound
    Xenarc 700TSV
    Usb Mini keyboard
    Linksys G USB nic
    Holux GR213 GPS
    40Gig ipod photo
(everything is USB1.1, no usb 2)

    Software wise (autorun on load)->
Windows XP + SP2 (no nlite or anything), Road Runner (11/27), iGuidance, SB Audio drivers/etc, Linksys NIC tools, StylesXP, and SAV (symantec antivirus)

On resumes from hibernation, total time is like 15 sec (probably a little more, but I'm not too concerned with this), but...
With the iPod plugged in, once windows loads, my lappy just freezes for like 2-3min, then comes back to life and continues as normal

Without the iPod, once windows loads, everything is good to go.

I've never installed iTunes, but have the latest winamp (5.12 i think) + I've had the mlpod plugin (uninstalled now).

I thought it was RR, but whenever the ipod is gone, everything is fine (RR supports ipods, so i took off the mlpod as guino suggested)...

I think it might be a problem where windows keeps scanning the ipod for something like the autoplay (on usb 1 maybe it takes longer), but no autoplay window pops up (I have it disabled with TweakUI)...

Anyone have this problem or know of a work around for it? Its starting to really suck on short drives, where by the time the pc gets loaded I have 2 min till i shut down again.

    Thanks ahead of time
    -Pete

There is a windows bug where if you hibernate without a USB device plugged in... and then plug in the device before you resume from hibernate.. it will stall on resuming from hibernate...

I noticed this issue on my work laptop... there is NO fix for this that I have been able to find.. except for not plugging anything in until the pc has fully resumed.. or alternately... not plugging anything out until i am done hibernating

That's what I've read too, but I leave the ipod plugged in on resume/hibernate (its in my car all the time), and the problem still happens

in that case... I suggest using Devcon to disable it before you hibernate... and then use Devcon again to enable it on resume...

I read up on the documentation, but when I run -
    devcon disable *IPOD*, it says

    USBSTOR\DISK&VEN_APPLE&PROD_IPOD&REV_1.62\000A2700 02C73C3D&0: Disable failed
    No devices disabled.

    Am I doing this wrong?

you dont disable the ipod you dissable the port its pluged into and it will be a PID number most likely. This is the comand that dissables my GPS mouse.
    "c:\devcon\i386\devcon disable *pid_2303*"
the pid_2303 being my com port 4 which wont be the same port that your after, you will have to find that out for yourself.

    I did a "devcon status usb*" :

    USB\VID_0409&PID_0058\5&19D40361&0&1
    Name: Generic USB Hub
    Driver is running.
    USB\VID_0D7D&PID_0150\143608014E1D
    Name: USB Mass Storage Device
    Driver is running.
    USBSTOR\DISK&VEN_APPLE&PROD_IPOD&REV_1.62\000A2700 02C73C3D&0
    Name: Apple iPod USB Device
    Driver is running.

and tried disabling : "*ipod*", "USB\VID_0D7D*", "USB\VID_0409*" and basically any PID listed as combinations... everything returns "disable failed"

derr... I'm an idiot - right now I'm trying this on my work computer, and I'm not an Admin... tried it on a diff computer as admin and worked like a charm....

Laguna: you run "devcon status usb*" or "devcon find *" and it'll list all the devices attached... then you just narrow it down to what is plugged in... now i can do a "devcon disable *ipod*" and that'll disconnect the ipod

thanks guys.. I'll give this a try in my lappy when i get in my car
