milkdrop issue

Using the suggestions in this thread and others, I now have milkdrop working fine in the embedded mode. However, when I double-click on it, it starts fullscreen mode just fine, except that every second you see the embedded window minimize, then pop right back up to its proper location. It infinitely loops this while the fullscreen mode keeps going (albeit with a flicker).

Also, if the computer goes into standby with milkdrop running, milkdrop hangs once the computer is revived from standby.

I'm using the classic winamp skin, have "integrate into winamp" unchecked, and "use fake fullscreen mode" unchecked. Milkdrop does fullscreen just fine when I start it from within winamp. In RRconfig, I have "hide winamp" checked, and Milkdrop is selected as the vis plugin. I have tried every combination of these options and just about all of the others that I can find. I have also forced 60hz through dxdiag.

Software versions are all the newest, freshly downloaded yesterday. Hardware: Aopen Pandora MiniPC (915, gma900, pentium m 740)

Any help would be much appreciated!!!

I have this same problem, with the same settings as arpad - MD works fine for me in Winamp. Haven't had chance to experiment yet, but I'm guessing something in RR keeps taking focus away from MilkDrop, causing it to drop out of fullscreen mode and so make the screen flicker.

I had similar problems when trying to embed PowerDVD into RR - the taskbar kept popping up and then hiding again, even though the software worked fine when run standalone.

normally this kind of problem happens when the application/plugin is "fighting" against the embbeding ... you should try to "reposition" the application area on the skin (The "A" definition on the .skin) to a different area or location, then try again.. you can also use the "RUN" command to disable the window title to embed (by making a "full screen" button -- more advanced)

As far as the position: I just have the default position since I'm using the BMV2 skin

I'm not exactly sure how to use the "RUN" command, do you have a link where I could read up on that?

Is it possible to not have the embedded window, and just have it switch to milkdrop fullscreen when I click on that area?

In your RR directory, you'll find a text file called skincommands.txt. Within that file, the Run command is explained. In fact, most things RR are explained in that file. Its very long but worth the read for sure.

I had the same problem when I ran Milkdrop at 800x600. Switching the resolution to 640x480 solved the problem. Maybe you can try this too.

erwin: thanks for the suggestion, but it didn't work for me... i tried different combinations of desktop and milkdrop resolutions and refresh rates until i got sick of it locking up.

j187: i'm horrible with the programming stuff, i couldn't make heads nor tails of that run stuff in skincommands.txt and the visualization command is listed as "not implemented yet" but thanks for the tip

i did try to mess with the "visu" button/command in the audiplayer.skin file... i changed the x and y to 0, and w and h to 800x600 hoping that it would just switch to a fake fullscreen mode when you hit the button (having the visualization in the little window isn't really important to me) but it didn't work...

What is your hardware setup?

When you start the VIS in Winamp (not via RR), does it work then?

I've got the aopen pandora minipc, it has an intel 915 chipset with integrated gma900 graphics card. 1gb ddr2 and pentium m 740, detailed specs here: http://www.sfftech.com/showdocs.cfm?aid=714

Yep, the vis does work in winamp when I start it from there...

Sorry for asking about the VIS working in Winamp, I just saw that you mentioned it in the first post.

I thought maybe the graphics card was the problem, mostly the integrated graphic cards are not as good as an external graphic card (and don't have as much as memmory). But it is strange that the VIS does work in Winamp and not in RR.

When I ran the VIS at full screen at 800x600 in Winamp I got the message that there was not enough video memmory. When I ran the same VIS with the same settings (800x600) in RR I had the same problem as you having now, minimizing the window and popping up again. I seems that when you haven't enough memmory the VIS minimizes and pops up again when you try to run it in RR. Maybe you do not have enough video memmory when you run RR and the VIS together, despite you run it at a lower resolution.
