My work log
Damn i couldnt find it on the home pc and the carpc was screwy in the cold this morning. I'm gonna re-create the skin while i'm here at work today. BTW my setup method will work when ur offline but the accuracy of the information depends on being able to update the images thru either wifi or phone connection. I have wifi and using skippy's netdetect my computer is automatically updated when connected to a hot spot. I have a cell phone hooked up as a backup. Hopefully today before 5 i'll have some screenies to show. Peoples you can easily modify my program to get baltimore traffic. I'm just pulling the images off of the VDOT and MDOT sites.
ok Bare with my progress so far.. i'm at work its busy and i'm workin on a slow *** EPIA 800 but here are some screenies. First is the traffic picture skin. All buttons work cept for the traffic details of course. Still researchin RSS feeds for that. Second picture ur gonna have to use ur imagination cause this computer is way too slow to get today's camera feeds found and downloaded. 6 images would be all screenshots from live traffic cams. each small photo is clickable making it as big as the traffic picture. If in a wifi area the traffic cams will auto update (of course at a slower pace than they do on a traffic website). If not you'll just get the still shot, but it still lets you see volume. I've tried this in my car and it works great for the 24 hours the shots are available before changing names lol. I have two autoit scripts currently, one that updates the picture and one that updates all the live cams. I can share this once i pull the actual skins and scripts out of the car. It will take some customization on your part (find the pics of roads you travel most), but at least its tested working.
Sonic, here's an RSS feed for DC from traffic.com
Where do you pull the live camera pics from?
Trafficland.com has tons of camera but they constantly change the IDs.
i pull them directly from virginia dept of transportation and maryland dept of transportations websites. I have tried too many other places but if by chance we could find one that didnt change that would be great. I'll take a look at that RSS conversion tonight.
